Not disputing that, but one has to realize there weren't that many films made at that time, they didn't have many theaters so the options were limited and there weren't that many forms of entertainment back then.

Never mind him, guys. He obviously has no clue what he's talking about.

Hah "not worthy" ...rrright.

No, it's Avatar...

By far.

You are both right, it just depends how you crunch the numbers. Gone With The Wind has the highest American Domestic take, if adjusted for inflation, but Avatar has the highest worldwide gross (unadjusted).

Domestically (US) GwtW has almost twice the take as Avatar.

Plus they didn't have as many western style theaters in much of the world dureing the time of Gone with the Wind.

While I liked Avatar....it can't match Gone with the Wind...."Frankly My dear ...I don't give a Damn." It's probably one of the most famous lines in movie history..what memorable line can Avatar produce? "I was afraid..for my people, but I'm not anymore"?....please....

As much as I would love to debate this, why Avatar is worth a watch is not what this thread is about. So I'm just gonna let this picture help you reconsider.

And before you say how being on top of that list doesn't make a movie good, it does make it worth watching, so that you can have an opinion after seeing it and bash it all you want. :)

The only thing Avatar has going for it is technology. It's very, very, very heavy in CGI. A very expensive/high-tech movie to make. Aside from that, if you're not into background/lore, which they invested in (language, species etc) then you won't see it as an amazing movie. The plot is not very original and the acting is not extra-ordinarily note worthy.

I think this movie grossed highly due to the big names behind it and, mostly, outstanding marketing.

In essence, I'd sum it up as glorified eye candy. IMO
definitely watch it to come up with your own opinion though, it never hurts.

I thought I would take a quick look at the top 10 Suki ;)

The only movies in this top ten list which isn't poor in my own eyes is Titanic and MAYBE the first Lord of The Rings. But other then those two.. also if you go on in those top Box Offices you won't find many good movies.. most them are rubbish to me, so the chance that Avatar strikes is very low right?

1. Avatar - Aufbruch nach Pandora (2009) $2,781,505,847
2. Titanic (1997) $1,835,300,000
3. Der Herr der Ringe - Die Rückkehr des Königs (2003) $1,129,219,252
4. Pirates of the Caribbean - Fluch der Karibik 2 (2006) $1,065,896,541
5. Toy Story 3 (2010) $1,062,984,497
6. Alice im Wunderland (2010) $1,023,285,206

Your probably right. But I thought without the 3-D effect it's even worse..

Avatar was basically Dances with Wolves..In Space...The CGI was astounding, visually the movie was awsome. Storywise it was predictable. Not bad mind you Suki, but like I said, it was just a space version of Dances with Wolves.
