I look at is as more of an age where there's no longer a need to shell out thousands of dollars for sh*tty service when a bit of research, including reviews from others, can help you find comparable service.
It's not really convincing yourself that you're going to have a bad time; it's reading about the bad times hundreds/thousands of people before you have had and learning from the wise. I personally would have asked/researched before booking the service, but to each their own.

The smell of jet fuel permeating the cabin, , etc.

You serious about the smell ? Fuel ? or Oil ? Difference is important.

The aircraft manufacturers are trying to downplay it it but contaminated bleed air is a problem. There are documented cases of pilots having to don their oxygen mask to keep from passing out.

Don't wanna scare tha pants off anybody, but google ''toxic cabin air''
