This was my impression PRIOR to my first visit to a Japanese maid cafe...

As I found out though, while they may be a little pricey, the service you get is second to none!


If you have any interesting maid cafe experiences I would love to hear them!!

If you want to try something different, you should check out a ツンデレ cafe.

I've never thought maid cafes were expensive, or at least not as expensive as people make them seem. I went with my friends just for kicks because one of them was visiting from Korea and wanted to experience it, and it was only 800 yen apiece for half an hour of all you can drink soda, coffee, and tea. That's not a bad deal to me; talking with a mildly cute girl and getting to pound enough drinks to make it cheaper than buying at a conbini. And I've had friends with similar experiences as well.

There used to be a maid cafe in Toronto around 10 years ago.

The maids were simply above average (Chinese) girls who were dressed as french maids. They yelled out Irashaimase when you entered and served you food and drinks but that was about it.

The maids in Japan however are very good actresses who sing, dance, cast spells on your food, etc.

Of course there's no anime culture in Canada so one shouldn't expect that kind of service but because of that, there was no repeat value. Needless to say, the place closed down shortly after the hype was over.

I was unaware such sub-genres of the maid cafe existed! Thanks for the suggestion :) I doubt I'll find any around Fukuoka but I'll keep an eye out!

The time system sounds reasonable enough I guess...

I wanted to get a polaroid photo with one of the maids at the place I went, but in order to "be permitted" to take said photo I was told I need to complete 4 stamp cards!...4! You need to spend 20,000 Yen to complete one card. So it would take 80,000 Yen over a great many months before being allowed one polaroid photo. Ridic!

Are you sure you don't mean 2,000 Yen and 8,000 Yen? If I'm paying a maid $1,000, she'd better be doing a lot more just posing for pictures. :)

It's simple. The maids ignore you, verbally abuse you and treat you like crap and then beg you not to leave when you ask for the bill.

Unfortunately, I'm not sure if they exist outside of Akihabara. I looked around in Nipponbashi, Osaka last November but I was told that the only ツンデレ cafe in the area closed down shortly after opening.

Isn't that ANY cafe in the world? I get my fair share of those here! :D

Haha, if only that were the case! You need to spend 1000yen to get one stamp and there are 20 stamps to a card...:eek: I think if you're that desperate for a photo with a girl that you're willing to spend 80,000yen to get it, you've probably taken a wrong turn somewhere in life...(。_。*))

I went to the @Home maid cafe in Akihabara a few years ago and I don't think it cost more than 2000 yen to get a polaroid with a maid. On the other hand, I somehow ended up playing some silly shark game with one of the maids and won. The prize for that was a polaroid so that's how I got mine. (My friend paid for everything so I wasn't sure how much the game cost.)

Yeah, I had a friend who paid something like Y3,000 for a maid photo, and that's the highest I've ever heard. I can't believe the other price. I mean, there's supply and demand, and then there's outrageous.

Interesting... that's the first I heard of ヤンデレ.

Not sure if it'd work in a cafe. Perhaps in a S&M club but not in a cafe. :D
