To me the Holocaust is the worst crime ever committed against humanity, nothing can be compared.
I personally think enslavment of africans was the worst crime...holocaust..20 years of suffering slavery was what..400 years. Then over 100 years of opression after...not much can compare to that. Plus the whole hangings up till a little over 40 years ago.

Europeans were enslaved as well but I do not know the extent.

kireikoori 07-05-2007 08:50 PM

More than anything what makes the holocaust such a big deal is the sheer number. Supposedly six million. That's more than anything else I know of.

I know about radiation effects, damnit!!

I'd prefer to have a quick death than feeling the pain of being tortured. Whatever comes after death it can't be worse than what you saw in the video, and not just when the flesh is pulled off, I think the first part of the video is more agony.

Umm you may be right. Anyway they were not massively killed.

I am pretty sure more then 12m people died in the 400 years of slavery then the lynchings following after...also don't forget about half of the slaves died in transportation.

Anywho back on track. The radiation from the a bomb lasted for how many generations?

Gorotsuki, I know it must have been terrible but it happened a long time ago. At that time black people were not considered to be human beings, some people even said there was cientific proof. It's still as bad though, but unfortunatly that was everyone's mentality so it was not seen as the unfair thing it was.

(I don't know how much it takes for the radiation effects to disappear, but it's a lot).

I am sure anyone who wasn't white was considered a beast and hardly human at that time.

If radiation takes a long time to dissapear this just makes the A-bomb even worse.

Oh and the whole lynching things thoes didn't end until a little over 40 years ago which is sooner then when ww2 ended.

I'm not an Atheist(to freaky for me to believe death is the end). But if I were that means accepting that death is the end. I'd rather go through any form of suffering than never experience anything ever again.

And slavery. Pssh. Slavery has existed since long before the 1st Century. For alot of people it's not been that bad. Certainly not as good as that of non-slaves but worse than death? Please.

I hold out hope though that death isn't the end. I refuse to become an Atheist and believe it as truth that it is the end. But I can't be sure that there is an afterlife either. Nothing. NOTHING is worse than nonexistence.

The afterlife can't be worse than what happened in that video? Obviously you haven't thought about the afterlife very much...

kireikoori 07-05-2007 11:18 PM

Please explain. Because what you said doesn't make sense to me.
To my knowledge any belief in the afterlife goes against what Atheism means, the belief that there is nothing more to the universe then what has been proven or can be proven scientifically. There's nothing scientific the to back up any belief in the afterlife.

Gorotsuki 07-05-2007 11:50 PM

Atheism means you don't believe in something Divine...no god or anything. Doesn't mean that you have to think there is no life after death. Life after death has nothing to do with divinity however most would think it would since you know heaven and hell, but using what the definition of an atheist is you can believe in life after death.

Quote:

the doctrine or belief that there is no God
a lack of belief in the existence of God or gods
1archaic : ungodliness, wickedness
2 a: a disbelief in the existence of deity b: the doctrine that there is no deity
Life after death has nothing to do with god it is just usually intertwined. Also being an atheist doesn't mean that you don't have to believe in the soul. Unless you believe the soul was created by god...in that case your not really an atheist if you don't believe in souls because you believe souls are created by divinity if that is true of you then you are not an atheist but just a rebel...

If you believe in souls and such then you can believe in the afterlife as well since according to Einstein energy does not die.

kireikoori 07-06-2007 12:02 AM

Very intertwined. I suppose since Buddhism is a non-Theistic religion one could believe in reincarnation while being an Atheist.

I've never run into an Atheist that said they believed in the afterlife before. So I'd be very interesting in hearing YaksokuDa's views on the afterlife.

I myself am a Pandeist who believes(or at least hopes) that the afterlife is you become a ghost. My believe in the afterlife is alot more complicated than that and I could go into more detail but I think ghost explains it well enough.

Einstein was a Pantheist. Atheists don't believe in souls. The idea of the soul is within the realm of divinity which Atheists don't believe in.
