Who's going to Japan in...?

There're so many people here who are travelling to Japan in 2008. And I noticed some dates coincide with one another. Here's mine, just in case anyone is here / there at the same time? Wouldn't it be lovely to meet then?

From 28Mar to 07Apr. Flying solo.
enquire for details (which I'm still trying to work out...)

next, please? :ywave:

Nyororin 01-18-2008 03:38 PM

I`ll be here 24/7 all through 2008 unless something horrible and unforeseen happens.

If anyone is anywhere close to me, I`m up for giving lame tours and translating.

reptilesandsamurai 01-18-2008 03:46 PM

I'll be there March 24th through April 2nd. Going to Osaka, Kyoto and Tokyo.

Lexy 01-18-2008 04:02 PM

My group's trip is still getting planned, but so far it seems that it'll be from june19th to July15th, we'll be staying mostly in Tokyo with some trips to Kyoto and Oosaka. However, it's not a solo trip =/ It's a school trip to study Language, Anthropology, and Humanities... so, seeing people will be hard, but maybe it could still work, I'll know once I get more information.

yukiya 01-18-2008 04:23 PM

I"ll be there 22 - 31 march. You've seen my itinerary in the advice thread :)
Will be attending the anime fair at Tokyo big site
チケット情報・宿泊案内 ~ 東京国際アニメフェア2008
on the 30th march. Do let me know if anyone wants to go together =)

blk180 01-19-2008 05:16 AM

sliksock 01-19-2008 08:56 PM

Hello everyone,

I'm planning my first trip to Japan in April. I'll be flying out of LAX non-stop to Narita on April 13th and flying back on April 23rd. I plan to spend the entire time in Tokyo, seeing the sights and walking around taking pictures. I have some specific places I plan to go and some places I'm still considering seeing. Doubtlessly there are places I haven't considered as of yet that I will end up making plans to visit. The only thing I have specifically planned is to check out Harajuku on Sunday, everything else is very fluid.

I'll be staying at the Hotel Rose Garden in Shinjuku. From what I have read here and other places, Shinjuku seems like a great place to start each day.

I'm chomping at the bit for April to hurry up and get here. My last vacation was back in 2004 when I spent 2 weeks in Thailand and I can't wait to get out into the world again. :)

IMHO, what a waste it would be to fly all the way to Japan and stay in Tokyo for all 10 days... Read some past threads here and look at some pictures and guidebooks to find a ton of other places to visit in Japan besides just Tokyo.

When you went to Thailand, did you stay in 1 city the whole time, or did you get out, see some of the countryside, visit some temples, beaches, etc?

koaku 01-19-2008 09:18 PM

hey, long time no speak... WOW, you're going for FOUR years? I'm going to Osaka for 1 or 2 years... Unfortunately Tokyo seems a little too expensive for poor me, so i've chosen osaka!!

I'm sorry, I should have made it clear that when I said this would be my first trip to Japan, I meant FIRST OF MANY. This particular trip I plan to stay entirely in Tokyo. Though I have to admit, I cannot for the life of me imagine how 10 full days in Tokyo to do whatever you want could ever be considered a waste no matter how you look at it.

It's up to you, you may have very different tastes than me. But on my 8 day trip through eastern Japan, I spent it like this:

Day 1: Leave my home in Hashimoto-shi, Wakayama-ken, travel to Lake Biwa, visit a fishing village, travel on to Kanazawa.

Day 2: Explore Kanazawa, especially the beautiful park, travel to Takayama.

Day 3: See Hida Folk Village and old part of town.

Day 4: Hiking in the Japan Alps, travel to Matsumoto.

Day 5: See Matsumoto Castle, travel to Tokyo.

Day 6: Explore Tokyo, especially looking for manga, see Hachiko statue, Harajuku, Shibuya, etc.

Day 7: Day trip to Nikko, north of Tokyo, to see temples there.

Day 8: Travel back home from Tokyo to Hashimoto.

I was able to see and experience a wide variety of Japanese culture and settings, from perfectly sculpted Kanazawa Park to the wilds of the Japan Alps, from the historical shrines, folk village, and castle to modern day Tokyo. I had a wonderful time, and I just can't imagine what I would have done spending all that time in Tokyo instead of sampling the variety that Japan has to offer. But to each his own.

Hi Folks

I'll be in Japan from 28th March to 7th April 2008. Will be based in Tokyo but am planning a few day-trips. Will be flying solo and would love to meet up with some people. I'll be staying in the Ace Inn Shinjuku. Would really be interested in meeting up with anyone who is planning on going to TAF 2008.

As you can see from this link my previous attempt to drum up interest with Irish Otaku wasn't particularly successful.

Harold 01-21-2008 04:53 AM

I'm going to Japan either from August to January or from June to August. I don't know where or when out of the two above options yet, as this is because I'm through a foreign exchange program. I have requested to be placed in the Kansai area, but who knows where I'll go. They might put me in Sapporo or Okinawa. Who knows. :o

Kikitjah 01-21-2008 04:48 PM

Me too

Hello!

I'll probably enter Japan around the beginning of october, planning to stay between half a year and one year...

Hi yukiya
I'd love to meet up. I'll PM you closer the time to make arrangements. :)
Still no word on the official site about tickets. Does anybody know if this convention is often sold out or are there always plenty of tickets for anyone who wants to go?

koaku 01-21-2008 09:10 PM

Cool !! You can check their japanese version and put it through www.rikai.com. The ticket is 1000yen and the exhibition is from 10.00 to 18.00. I haven't found out if it's possible to get the ticket before the event =_=
