Who's in Japan this Summer???

Hi there

I'm planning a trip to Japan this Summer. I will be working over there in june/july (research exchange). Afterwards, about 26th of july - 20th of august, I want to discover this fascinating country.
As I am not going to some school, I am a bit afraid of not finding friends over there. I want to discover all the big cities, experience japanese culture, enjoy sushi & co as well as japanese bathing, karaoke bars etc etc, whatever YOU are interested in, too...
I'm 23 years, female, from switzerland and I study Medicine resp. Biomedicine.

WHAT DO YOU WANT DO DISCOVER IN JAPAN??
INTERESTED TO GET TO LEARN OTHER PEOPLE FROM ALL OVER THE WORLD?
BECAUSE I AM. NO MATTER WHERE YOU ARE FROM, WHETHER YOU ARE/SPEAK JAPANESE OR NOT, ARE MALE OR FEMALE...

I would be glad to hear from you soon!!! :)
Especially if you are willing to meet me somewhere in Japan...
So, where will you be, and when?

Diana

Where from Switzerland are you from? I am originally from Zürich but live in Genève. Bisch Dütschschwiezerin?

IcYe 04-13-2008 09:28 PM

Salut kanedova

Ouaaais, je suis Dütschschwizerin ;) wow, gleich ein halbes jahr gehst du, cool! was machst du so lange in japan???

i plan on learning Japanese there for 6 Months. I will be staying at my Grandma's place in Wakayama, which is about 1 hr away from Osaka. What about you? Where will you be?

In my free time I do would like to travel the country and explore cool places. I want to visit each place possible, from south to north. Since i am half Japanese, half Swiss i feel i got to know everything possible about Japan.
Maybe we can arrange something some day.

just for Info, i am 22 yrs old and M.

hast du msn?

looking forward to hearing from you ;)

chachava 04-14-2008 02:01 PM

i live over here in Yokohama (relocating to a nice place in kami-itabashi near Ikebukuro in 2 weeks though) and will be here all summer

Tsuwabuki 04-14-2008 02:43 PM

I have an interview with a job in Urawa. Either way though, it looks like I should be hired somewhere before June 10th.

Firebird 04-14-2008 06:18 PM

I will be in Japan for 1 year from June 2008 and will start off in Tokyo.
Than i want to move North to Hokkaido and come back to Tokyo for winter and work a little bit. In Spring i want to travel the southern part of Japan.
I actually want to buy a car, if that works out somehow, so i would be happy if someone would join me or meet me somewhere :)
Ah im German 24 M and live really close to Basel, so schweizerdeutsch is no problem :D .
Oh yeah, i´m there on a working holiday visa, so i want to learn more japanese, see the country and especially meet many many people :)
I already got some friends from my time in Australia, but im open to meeting new people anytime. I think i´ll open a different thread later with some more outlined dates and some questions.

seems alot of people are in japan at that time,

why not meet up with everyone at the same time and go do something?

Doutas 04-22-2008 07:52 PM

That's funny. I'm also going to Japan in July with my friend. Just for three weeks to travel around a bit. We are planning to go from Tokyo north, all the way up to Sapporo. Let's party! ^__^

Wow!! That's a very cool idea! Well I'm going to Tokyo, staying at the Grand Palace Hotel near Iidabashi Station, but i don't know where i can meet you people in Tokyo, because Tokyo is really a big city.:)

Though, i really like the idea!!

Nao 04-23-2008 08:50 AM

I'll be in Japan for all of June. I'll be living in Ueno, Taito-ku, in Tokyo (but of course I plan to travel a little). If you're anywhere close, I wouldn't mind meeting up.

As for who I am...

Age: 19

Sex: Male

Nationality: United States (Florida)

Race: Primarily Caucasian (German, English, Scottish, Austrian, and perhaps Irish), and a bit Native American (Cherokee), though it's not immediately noticeable.

Languages: English, a little Japanese, and a little Spanish.

I don't mind either way, but if you are interested in either meeting up or just having the contact information of another foreigner for a feeling of security, feel free to send me a private message for further details.

Thanks.

-Nao

(PS: Those of you who coined the idea of people from JF meeting up who are there this summer... I wouldn't at all be opposed to that idea either. If any of you are there for a portion of the month of June, feel free to let me know.)

purpleworld 04-27-2008 07:40 PM

My dreams will never come true until I start saving up and graduate high school. lol
But I really want to go. I'm trying to study Japanese but find that I do not have the time to do this. Juggling German, soon to be in Spanish, and English class all at once is VERY hard.

Hey, cheer up! I believe your dreams would come true, trust me :vsign: ! Pssst... tell u smthg, you don't have to learn Japanese to go to Japan. I knows nuts about the language but still managed to pull it off during my 5 days in tokyo. The secret lies in doing research, research and MORE research. Research on the subway lines to take, research on the best places to visit, research on the good eating places and off u go! But still I have to admit... knowing Japanese does get make your traveling around easier (the taxi drivers there noes nothing about english and it can be real frustrating talking to them:mad: )

Peace!

I just looked at some of your pictures and I see you have a Fuji gunmetal colored camera. Which model is that? I assume it's an older model from the f series? They're good but they only take xD cards which are expensive and the highest xD card that I see is 2GB but those older f series cameras are still nice with a larger battery that last much longer than any point and shoot camera on the market including the newer f series models. I just bought a gunmetal colored f40fd/f45fd which was sold by a U.S camera shop company by the name of Ritz. They had a $75 mail-in-rebate offer by Fuji when bought through Ritz. I will be using it on my trip to Japan in May and from the reviews it's a great camera that takes great outdoor pics and some nice low light pics as well. A firmware update that was recently released allows you to use a 8GB SDHC card (not sure if it's the maximum) as opposed to a 2GB SD card maximum before the update. I'm glad I bought the Fujifilm f40fd/f45fd because it seems to be a great camera for the right price.

sujuncai 04-28-2008 01:29 AM

Wow, what sharp eyes you have! My model is the F47fd and yes I've upgraded the firmware and plugged in a 16GB SDHC and all good to go. I can take hours and hours of movies without exhausting the memory card, hehehe...:D

seiraMiharu 04-28-2008 03:16 PM

I will be in Japan from June to mid August hopefully working at the time on a working holiday with job swap. I want to stay in Kyoto but it depends on where I get hired. I also plan to travel around Japan in my free time and I want to do a lot of shopping. I'll be staying in Tokyo during my first week.
It's interesting how many people from here are going this summer.

iammako3 04-29-2008 02:14 AM

I'll be in Tokyo this June! :D I have some tentative plans, but also a lot of free time, so if we do have a meet-up, I'll more then likely be there!

IcYe 05-10-2008 03:31 PM

Hey Dennis!

That's great to hear! So you're basically going to visit about the same places as I am.

In my case, it's now definitive:
I will fly to Tokyo on 27/5/08, work in Sapporo from 1/6/08 to 25/7/08, fly southwards to Kyushu on 28/7/08 and then travel back north by train until I finally reach Tokyo and fly back to Zurich on 21/8/08.
I guess our tours could cut each other, therefore it would be great to get to learn you and speak some schwitzerdütsch over there ;) . I would also love to meet your friends from Australia!
Would be perfect if you let me know as soon as YOUR exact locations/dates are set.
Looking forward to meeting you!!

Diana

Tsuzuki 05-10-2008 03:43 PM

IcYe 05-10-2008 04:06 PM

hey nevik
that's a great idea!
I will post some link where everyone can enter when they could be at which place :)
the more the better!! :)

Hi Diana,
great to hear your plan. I will defenetly be in Tokyo from the 25.06 till the 02.08. After that i will go to Sapporo (i think around the 06.08), so we could meet there. I will probably stay in Sapporo for 2 weeks and be busy the first days meeting my Travelmate from Australia and here new born son, but there should be a chance to meet after some days. I´m flying from Basel, but im actually German, so i only speak high-german ; ). But i will understand your "swissgerman" because im working in Switzerland. I will write you a message when i know definetly at wich time i arrive in Sapporo.

Dennis

Tsuwabuki 05-11-2008 02:11 AM

I guess I should have updated this thread, seeing as how I am currently in Japan and not going anywhere...

Firebird 07-02-2008 12:10 AM

I am currently in Tokyo, so if anyone wants to meet, feel free to write me a message. I got time till Friday, will be busy the weekend and start a Japanese language course (4h/day) after that, wich means i still got some time after the classes.

Rellik 07-16-2008 10:50 AM

Hi everyone,

I will also be mainly in Tokyo from 22th of July to 10th August. I am eager to meet nice people to go around visiting, eating or clubbing.
I do not have precise plans so far but I will certainly travel all around Honshu.

I am 24, French, male, just graduated and big traveller.
Please do message me if you are in the same mood

Cheers
