Your best Japan Photo

This thread is for people who have been to Japan. Post your favorite picture! (That you've taken)

You don't have to be a photographer or anything- even if its purikura!

I like this picture I took- but I'm embarrassed to say I don't remember where it was taken (I did a ton of Temple-hopping)... If anyone recognizes it let me know!

And this was taken while walking around Kinkakuji

Atomic bomb dome, Hiroshima, Japan, August 19, 2007
This version is slightly edited. The lightning distorted the focus and color of the A-Bomb dome so I layered it with a picture taken a few seconds later.

burkhartdesu 02-07-2009 07:51 AM

Wow.... That's officially the best picture of the dome of all time.

Raisthlin 02-07-2009 09:04 PM

Choosing 1 picture is way too hard for me. I took hundreds and hundreds while on my trip. So heres a few of my favorites ones.

Raisthlin 02-07-2009 09:07 PM

a couple more

burkhartdesu 02-07-2009 09:20 PM

Wooow! Encore!

Great shots there guys, These are some beautiful sights. Keep em coming.

Nightops 02-08-2009 08:30 AM

Hey Raisthlan,

Is the last picture on the 4th post of the Okunoin Temple graveyard in Koyasan (Mount Koya)?

I've been looking for places to go while in Japan and Koyasan was on my list of intersting places. Could you let me know if you enjoyed the stay and if you overnighted in a temple. Any recommendations if so.

I'm sorry to derail the picture post into a discussion. I'll have to look into finding how to PM on the boards.

Nyororin 02-08-2009 10:57 AM

I don`t have any of my recent ones up yet, so these are some older. Thing is, I don`t really take "pics of Japan" being as, well, every photo I take in life is in Japan. I just have photos that I personally like.

Nyororin 02-08-2009 11:00 AM

And more;

Tsuwabuki 02-08-2009 11:16 AM

I know exactly what you mean. When I first got here, I took pictures of everything. Now that I plan to live here for a good long while... You stop taking pictures of "Japan" and just start taking pictures of your friends, your coworkers, your family, and they all just happen to be in Japan.

After being here 10 years... Well, unless it`s remarkably amazing, I don`t pull out the camera. Thing is, I really like taking pictures so I have quite a lot. But they`re more for personal satisfaction.

Of more recent shots, these two. They`ve been resized, but are still huge so I`ll link to them instead of actually putting them up here. (Maybe I`ll resize later and replace the links with the actual shots...)

Autumn

The beach.

burkhartdesu, reptilesandsamurai, Nyororin : Very ncie pictures guys. I really love em.

Nightops, i sent you a PM. Let me know if i can do anything else to help you.

burkhartdesu 02-08-2009 08:52 PM

Good pics guys-- post more! Even if you live in Japan, post pictures of your everyday life :p

ThirdSight 02-08-2009 09:02 PM

Gawd, this thread is giving me an incredibly dangerous, unrealistic, and romantic view of Japan in my head.

That being said, please keep them coming.

burkhartdesu 02-08-2009 10:14 PM

Ahaha, those pictures are a little TOO majestic.

So here's me with my host family and other various pictures from around Tokyo, Nara... just randomness. These are a little more 'realistic'

Thank you. And that`s literally straight from the camera - no real touchups other than resizing it. It`s not even an HDR shot.

I never really thought trees became that vibrant until I saw it for myself...

godwine 02-09-2009 01:17 PM

Wow these are really nice.. i only posted a few pics up in the photo section

It was at Kongourinji (金剛輪寺). Not a huge famous place, but it`s well known enough for it`s "血染め紅葉" - which is why I took the time to drive over there. And it was well worth it. Last autumn was supposedly some of the best conditions for producing amazing color, and it really was true.

But it`s most certainly well off the foreign tourist path. The only way up there is literally to drive or take a tour bus.

Unless you`re there during autumn, it`s not exactly a lot to see. Just a temple up in the mountains.

godwine 02-10-2009 01:15 PM

Just out of curiosity, what equipment is everyone shooting these pics with?

Certainly nothing fancy in my case.
Earlier shots with this.
Later shots (Like the autumn one, the dragonfly, etc) with this. A much more robust camera than it looks to be...

I`ve thought about buying a nice DSLR, but if I can`t carry it around with me in my bag all the time I get the feeling I`d hardly ever use it. So I stick with little cameras. :)

angelbott 02-11-2009 03:29 AM

Wow I enjoy their pictures it made me speechless go to la la land That's cool XD I hope get more photos XD

Nice... I shoot semi pro, and I do know the feeling of having to carry a DLSR around your neck..... I have yet to post anything breath taking yet... simply because when I am on a trip, I got lazy and didn't want to spend too much time setting up my shots :)

Naoko 02-11-2009 01:53 PM

Wow...most of those pictures were absolutely gorgeous. The autumn one...yeah there's no words for that. More pictures of everyday life, though!! I love to see what is seen on a regular basis, instead of the "ZOMGPrettyJapan" pictures for tourists they put on all the other sites. It gives a nice dose of reality and a real feel for the interested. :)

spicytuna 02-13-2009 07:07 AM

Ok, so maybe it isn't my best photo but I definitely recommend a visit to this place - the infamous @Home Maid cafe in Akihabara. My friends (in the pic) took me there and I had a blast!
