Watches in Japan?

I might be going to Japan later this year, and randomly I found something someone wrote about getting a watch there. According to this person watches in Japan are really cheat. This got me thinking, because I don't have a watch myself, and I'd like to get one when I whent there if they are good and not too expensive.

I don't have a watch right now because of two reasons, they are expensive here where I live, and I can never seem to find one that I like enough to buy it.

What are your experiences in this field?

They used to be cheap, but things are about even with the rest of the world price wise now.

Really? Oh... The financial crisis is it?

Well then, does anyone know what kind of watches they have in Japan? If they have really cool ones, I'll get one there, if not I'll just get one here before I go (I'll have to have one there once I go you see)

I don't know how much watches cost in Norway but the watches in Japan aren't exactly cheap. In fact, all of the consumer electronics I looked at were cheaper in Canada than in Japan due to the yen.

Really? Oh... Well, i guess my plan doesn't work then if things are getting that expensive in Japan...
Thanks for the help though :)

Japan is good if you desperately need the latest and greatest but you'll be paying a large premium.

By the way, here's a large showcase of watches :

Yeah, those ones are awesome but pricey !

Wow, those where awesome, but I don't need something that fancy! Just a simple, but good watch is enough for me. I was just hoping for one that's a bit cool, like you maybe only can get in japan or something, but still regular in a way...
Wow, I explain it so simple, like always.

Well in that case and without trying to break the bank.

I do know there are several models of Casio's and others that never made it to NA, haven't seen any myself but have seen didital ones here and there from $30 - $50 at various stores.

I love the Tokyo Flash stuff but I'm sure I'd forget how to read it :D

Ok, thanks a lot! I will see if I can find any of these when I'm there.

From my price comparisons after I bought my watch 1 1/2 years ago, Japanese brands were far cheaper in Japan than in the US while imported brands were about the same in both places. I only did the comparison because I saw the same Seiko watch that I bought at DEODEO in Japan for ~9,000 yen in a US store for ~$200.

lil off topic, but i stayed in the house across from the owner of seiko in Shiro kane Dai.

lol

any ways.

it really depends on where you shop and what brand you get.

you can get cheap or expensive watches any where.

just depends on your personal taste.

i've seen cheap japanese watches and expensive ones.

although i dont own any.

person i like movados b/c they are very slim and not flashy.

but in japan movado can be very pricey

G-Shock is made by Casio, but I have found they are cheaper in the US than in Japan.
