Japan in June?

Any advice for visiting Japan in June? I wasn't fully aware of the typhoon season when I booked my flights... I will be arriving June 11 and leaving June 27 and will be staying with a relative in Tokyo. I will be staying in Tokyo for most of the trip, with a 3 night stay in Kyoto, and a trip from there to Osaka. Any advice for a tourist braving the wet season?

To be honest, I never thought the wet season was that bad. I found the close humidity the worst part of it and not torrential downpours; though they do happen. It will still be awfully hot so don't think of bringing any big raincoats. Just something light, thin and breathable is the key. If a typhoon does come, you might find yourself going through a lot of brollys, but they can be purchased in the convenience store for next to nothing. Trust me, you will still have an awesome time.

;)

Who told you June was the typhoon season? It isn't: It's just a rainy season.

August is the typhoon season, followed by September.

I agree, most of the Junes I have experienced in Japan are not that bad, and not even that much more rainy than other times of the year (most of the time).

It won't be too bad, just pick up a cheap umbrella from a local combini and enjoy walking around in warm rain, it's kinda cool!

Get a JR Pass though and travel around a bit, the countryside smell in the rainy season is a nostalgic feeling for me and really peaceful! Japan Rail Pass - buy the JR Pass online

I am curious as to why people try and push the JR Rail Pass so much.

314 dollars for 7 days is a lot, unless you are doing quite a bit of city-to-city travels. If you are just going to be in and around Tokyo for a week, you would be hard-pressed to spend half that, and will still probably be shelling out for subways, etc.

When it rains..

When it rains in Japan there are two things to do: Food & Shopping!

Heck, you could spend a whole day in one electronics or fashion department store alone! Large stores are not just for shallow shopping, for example, Tokyu Hands gives you an amazing look into Japanese culture and is great fun.
Check out my blog (Smart & Cheap Japan Travel) for some more ideas on those.

Anyway, as everyone said it's not that bad. Have fun!
