my uni is located in Fukuoka, Kyushu, which is the southern part of Japan!

Hello, mousee09, I'm glad that I was able to find this forum! This is my first post on Japan Forum. =)

I assume that you will be attending Ritsumeikan University in September 2010? I am also going to Ritsumeikan! I think it will be an eventful year for all of us.

I am going for the whole year (ten months to be exact), and yes I have heard back from Ritsumeikan a few weeks ago! I did receive the Jasso scholarship, so I am super excited because I can save lots of money. That was my major concern about going on exchange! I haven't exactly figured out how much money I will bring, but I think I will have a clearer idea when the date gets closer, because I have a friend who's at Ritsumeikan doing the SKP right now, and she's giving me some details about everything lately.

I think for student visa, we have to wait for Ritsumeikan to send acceptance packages (I got my official letter already, just waiting for the Certificate of Enrollment!). As for packing, I am just making lists when something comes into mind - such as ordering contact lenses, getting moisturizer, deodorant, the basics, etc. And no, I probably won't be buying an electronic dictionary here. I've gotten some advice that if you are adamant on buying one, you should wait till you get to Japan! More choices, better prices, or so I've heard.

Got my COE today. Now I just have to get it notarized at the Japanese embassy and I'm good to go.

Awesome! i just recieved my japanese to english dictionary and I think it is going to prove very helpful while over in japan.

What I am waiting on now from Ritsumeikan University..you say certificate of enrollment..do you mean the student visa??? Because I know we are suppose to received that at the beginning of August.

I just recieved all of my contacts lenses. I am going to try and pack very light...like 3 to 4 pairs of jeans and maybe 4 to 5 shirts..ect. I am going to shopping as soon as I get there September 9.

Did you look at the SKP Map in the packet? it is so cool like we are already there :D

Er, about the contact lenses, you will be able to get them here for sure, if you bring the boxes with you. I didn't even need a prescription.

And you should probably look into getting an electronic dictionary. A lot of the stores in the tourist-heavy areas have English-speaking staff members who can help you out with that.

Also, anticipate that food here will cost more and so will going out :3 A lot of the exchange students I know are completely broke now because they didn't anticipate that at all.

Yeah, buying the electronic dictionary it a very good idea. I have been playin around with mines and it has proven its neccessity.

Hopefully I will not end up like the exchange students you mention. I received alot of scholarships money to support everything while I am there plus alot extra. So I not really worried about but I will still keep on guard :)

Alot of people here are going to Tokyo on exchange. I am really glad I am staying in Kyoto. Alot less people there, and i heard it more people friendly.

Where did you hear that? That's the exact opposite of how Kyoto people are regarded by us Japanese.

It wasnt meant to offend, so I apoligize for that.This is just from what I have read in a few articles and documeneraries that the people in Tokyo are called Tokyoites, and is refered to being different in than the rest of the Japan. NOT SAYING this is a bad thing! and not saying they are not as friendier or more friendier,from personal experience when I compare my town to where I live at to the capital in my state, people in the city tend to be more rude. NOT SAYING that TOKYO is the same and I not saying all people in my capital are all rude either.

But for the sake to not start an agrument, I will drop what I said. I wouldnt want to stay in Tokyo because it is more crowded end of story. I apoligize again for the comment.
