best vantage point for Mt Fuji
 

Hey guys,

with my first trip to Japan newxt april im trying to organise my itinerary,
i would like to see mount fuji, hopefully i get a clear day.

i intend on staying in the vacinity for one night,
but cant decide bewteen hakone or the five lakes district,
i see you can see fuji from both places on their day but without having been there im not sure where to go,

any info or tips would be much appreciated,

The town of Fuji-Yoshida would be a clever choice. Around Lake Ashinoko would be another.

Ask a cab driver in Fuji-Yoshida to take you to a hill with the best view of Mt. Fuji. It's utterly breath-taking on clear days.

Impossible. The guy is coming in April when Mt. Fuji will still be covered by snow and when climing is prohibited.

Climing is allowed in July and August only unless you are a pro and have obtained a special permit.

If you want to climb Fuji-zan outside the July/August season all you'll find in your way is a chain about 1 meter above the path with a sign hanging from it saying "Do not enter". What most people do is step over this chain and climb anyway.

You can see Mt Fuji from many places, but the best views are usually from around Ashi no ko (Lake Ashi) in Hakone. You can get there from Odawara station on the Tokaido line (or Shinkansen). You can take a bus from Odawara station which will take you to the lake, and from the lakeside you can take a large boat to cross to the other side. Or you can rent a small pedal-powered boat at either end of the lake.

If you cross the lake, take the ropeway (cable tram) up into the mountains and check out the hot springs.

Lake Kawaguchi is good when cherry blossoms are in blossom.
VillageOshino or Lake Motosu is good if cherry blossoms are not in blossom.

hey i wondered how far is Lake Kawaguchi from Hakone..
i guess what im thinking is heading to Lake Kawaguchi one morning hopefully catch a glimpse of the mountain then catch the train to hakone for the night,
where i can get up early and hopefully see the mountain from lake ashinoko

and maybe even fit fujiyoshida in someehere there too

is this practical...? or would it be a lot of messing around,
keep in mind il only have a day to try and see fuji (just hope i get the clear weather)
