Eversince I was in eighth grade I've always wanted to go to Japan but I was limited by the usual barriers (Language,food,Relations,Predjudices) but as I continued to study for a few more years on thier culture (9 years to be exact) all of that demistified and i'm more determined than ever to go to Japan for the first time.

me being black will NEVER bother me (KAMEHAME......) only my own limitations will whitch are NONE!

Generally and obviously, for true acceptance more meeting and mixing needs to happen.

It has been my experience that Japanese girls, lots of them, prefer black males. I see them together all the time out here. Don't think it will be a problem for you. :)

dont worry i am black and i went all over japan from the country to the biggest city their tokyo and saw no racism towards. actually it was the opposite they loved me

my friend Bill is black from canada and my friend Hiro is Black/japanese from africa.
they both said b4 moving to japan that they were more afraid of going to America.

Well, in the JDorama Hana Yori Dango all the bad people who beat people up are black - both in Japan and in New York, and in the JDorama Ikebukuro West Gate Park some "bad" people are also black. So I'm pretty sure there are some prejudice :P

Since my time in japan i've never ran into any one who hated black people or prejudice against them.

Japanese are very polite people.
there are VERY few places i know that are Japanese only.
such as a few onsens and whatnot
and i cant even go into onsens cuz of my inkwork.

If you've checked out the serie Hana Yori Dango you'll see how over-dramatizing it is so I found it annoying that all the bad guys who wanted to beat and rob the characters of the show just "happened" to be black. But then again most of the "bad guys" are actually girls who have are inlove with the main character, hah :D

But you're right, I haven't met any japanese people so if they have prejudice against any race at all, I wouldn't know.

american tv portrays blacks in a horrible light.

its just all media bs

trust me theres tons of tourists who come here every year, no one outright starts any trouble b/c your a certain race.

well im actually 17 (just turned 17 today woohoo HAPPY BIRTHDAY) anywayz, yeah im black and im planning on going japan in the summer 2008. the fact that im black has never bothered me.

i hope i can save enough mony though, im planning on saving up 2,000 pounds untill then hopefully that's enough as im onli goin for two weeks i suppose since im FORCING friends to come with me lol.

I understand that I may have tipped some of you with my strong wording regarding me wanting to go to Japan and HOUSETEK I have to agree with you, your strong views (as well as everyone else's) has capured my attention and given me the courage to continue pursuing a trip up there.

It doesen't matter what race one is, EVERYONE should at least experience japan once, It's culture has inspired me to at least go take a visit and I encourage everyone on this thread too.

I have studied up on Japan ready for when I go there, Its seems that as long as you don't make a complete joke out of yourself and don't be rude to anyone then your ok, it will pretty much be exactly like you'r expected to behave back home. Although I have read somewhere and been told by travel agents that don't worry if you get some wording wrong "if" you try to speak some japanese as they will be happy that you at least tried it and they said that Japanese citizens don't tend to show much emotion in public.......can anyone tell me if this is true or not??

I'm happy you did some backgrounding (I'm really encouraged) Yet I don't know if they show emotion at all, I'll just have to go to Japan to find out.
