You have stated on another thread that you are 15 years old. So you don't need to know about cigarettes in Japan or anywhere else for that matter.

Buy the cheapest brand you can get your hands on, since its abroad they'll taste different anyway. Even Marlboro tastes different depending on which country you bought it in.

Or just quit, its alot cheaper (believe me, loving the extra money I have since a couple of months).

I should quit before my habit gets really bad. Thanks! :]

If you want to have any chance of quitting don't come to japan.

Uhm. Is it because there are a ton of smokers there?

Cyclamen 08-30-2007 05:35 PM

Cigarettes in japan are really really cheap. (that is, compared to the prices in the US..)
And there are tons of flavours: melon flavoured, vanilla flavoured, strawberry flavoured, cherry flavoured and "black" flavoured cigarettes. And a lot of people smoke menthol cigarettes.

But if you're 15, you won't be sold any. And if you get them in a jidouhanbaiki and the cops make you show your ID, and thus find out you aren't allowed to smoke, you'll be in trouble.

And there are tons of flavours: in a jidouhanbaiki (vending machine) in Kyoto I saw together chocolate flavoured, melon flavoured, vanilla flavoured, strawberry flavoured, cherry flavoured and "black" flavoured cigarettes. And a lot of people smoke menthol cigarettes.

I'll be legal by the time I go to Japan. xD

The smoking age in Japan is 20 (so is drinking), and from what I've heard from friends that have studied abroad, they really do enforce it strictly. Really, if your a tourist especially, I would stick by the laws. A lot of countries are far more stricter in there laws and penalties (very much so compared to here in the U.S.).

Most people though will smoke Marlboros (from my understanding though, that is Asia in general). You may come across DunHills and Cohibas too.

Women are the worse though in Japan when it comes to smoking. It's kind of a social click there.

The best thing I'd say for you though, if your 15, quit now; and wait till your legal age. Trust me, it's a lot more fun being able to buy them yourself, than to con someone into buying them for you.

I'm only saving up right now. I'm not going to Japan until I'm legal.
