Japanese glass blowing scene
 

Hey all I blow glass here in the states, specifically lampworking which can be anything from making jewelry, I make wine bottle stoppers, candle holders etc. I was wonderin if anyone could tell me what the scene is like in Japan. I know it's gotta be something, they got their own style of torches and everything but as someone really interested and with hopes of potentially living there someday at least for a little while I was wondering how prevalent it might be in and out of the big cities.

There is glass blowing in Japan, I know of at least one factory although I can't recall exactly where it is. I've seen lamp-work here and there and around, but I'm not sure where the glassblowers hang out, if you know what I mean. They had glass in the edo period I think which might be where some of the different techniques stem from.

If it helps the Japanese word for glass blowing is 吹きガラス so you could search using that. Lampworking is バーナーワーク, lit. 'burner work'.

i know there is glassblowing at the mt. aso farmland.

but thats kinda of out in the boonies at a resort. good stuff though.
