my idea for an outfit

Please excuse the bad drawings. I am not at all an artist.

This was originally done for a Gaia contest thing.

I haven't yet worked on making an actual wearable outfit, because I need to practice my sewing, and also right now I don't have the money to buy fabric, etc.

All I'm looking for right now is opinions and advice. If there's anything I should change?

MissMisa 05-20-2008 10:09 PM

It's really hard to read the writing on the scan because it's really light blue, so it's kinda difficult to tell! Are you making something kinda like a shorts/dress typey thing?

Miyavifan 05-20-2008 10:13 PM

pretty much. It's a shorts/skirt combo, with the shirt somehow also attached. But that's only because Gaia required it to be only one piece. Elsewise it can also be a separate shirt.

It would be a while til I can post it, but I will work on writing the words on a different piece of paper, and post it soon as I can.

Ahh right I see! So on a person it would look something kinda like this? :

[Sorry just a quick sketch of what I thought it'd look like, is that how it is? (sort of)]

Miyavifan 05-20-2008 10:46 PM

I thought I had posted a reply. where'd it go?

anyway. pretty much.

But it's open in the front of the skirt, and there are straps over the shoulder, and the black lines on the front of the shirt are from the collar.
and it's more of a masculaine looking shirt.

Ahhh I understand you now! Yeah ^_^ I can picture it in my head. Anyway it's a cool idea, a skirt over shorts would be a lot more pratical than just a skirt.

I guess so ^-^;; I've never seen one before!

I normally wear skirts a lot though, but they are impractical for a lot of things >.<

based on description a masculine top shirt with a collar
skirt somehow attach to shirt
not really sure about the short
this is what i got in mind probably this is far what you mean lol

Yes, that is the current term for that style, unless you want to consider the "skirt" an overly long peplum.

I thought so too.

ok, close, kinda.... but not exactly.
There would be straps instead of sleeves, if possible.

and that looks like more of a dress.

The shirt can be separate I guess and just tucked in, if it could be done neatly.

Ah, it's ok that you did.

I think that might be the closest so far, but the straps go on the arms, not the shoulders, if possible.

And the collar is missing?

ah, ok. its been quite awhile since i've heard of someone makin a skort/outfit type thing

Miyavifan 05-21-2008 07:38 PM

Do you think it's a bad idea?

KikiBunny23 05-21-2008 07:46 PM

I like it....but did the outfit make it into the finalists for gaia because it looks so familiar

Miyavifan 05-21-2008 07:49 PM

not that I know of.

It wasn't one of the ones to vote for.

KikiBunny23 05-21-2008 07:52 PM

ah, ok...its still a good idea. I wish I was able to make things. Most I can make is arm sleeves

Miyavifan 05-21-2008 08:03 PM

ah, ok. thank you. I am not actually sure if I can make it, but I am going to try.

KikiBunny23 05-21-2008 08:07 PM

thats awesome. Be sure to post pictures of how it turns out.

Do you know what type of fabric you'll be using?

Miyavifan 05-21-2008 08:25 PM

I will, though it could be a while.

I actually need to go to a fabric store, to brainstorm.

KikiBunny23 05-21-2008 08:29 PM

awesome

I usually just go to walkmart...no fabric stores near here

Miyavifan 05-21-2008 08:32 PM

seriously? none, at all?

KikiBunny23 05-21-2008 08:34 PM

serious. but my mom has a box full of fabric that i use

Miyavifan 05-21-2008 08:37 PM

ah, ok. My mom used to have fabric once. But none of it would have been good for my idea anyway.

The walwart nearest me quit carrying fabric, so now its a real effort to get to a fabric store, and even then the nearest is Jo-Ann's which has gotten so bad its nearly pointless. If you aren't looking for something to make quick blanket with or lining material, your options are extremely limited. Microfiber for blankets that take all of 20 minutes to finish when is 98 outside is just stupid! I needed a smooth plain black polished cotton or even synthetic and a some silver satin last week - no luck. But they have 1/4 of the store for calico for quilters, but there is never anyone looking through the bolts. sheesh!

Miyavifan 05-21-2008 09:22 PM

I can't recall the name now, but there's a store near me, which I think has very good fabric.
