Im off to Tokyo for hanami-season. Where should I go to watch cosplayers?

Hello everyone! I'm new here on the forum, nice to meet you! :D

Me and my friend are going to Tokyo at the end of this month to see the hanami-season (cherry blossoms). At the same time we are very interested in watching skilled japanese cosplayers and shoot some cool photos (if they r allow us to do so ofc!) Me and my friend are very interested in "anime & cosplay stuff" + japanese pop music!

I have heard that Harajuku and Akihabara on sundays is the place to go for this kind of thing! But is there any more places I should know about?

Any info will be greatly appreciated! :rheart: :ywave:

Are there any places on Tokyo that people go to cos-play on weekdays?

[What's the correct verb here? "go" cos-play? "dress up"? "show off"? :D ]

Well, not all japanese cosplayers are skilled, you see a lot of crap as well. If you wanna look for cosplay and that stuff you go to Harajuku. However, be aware that cosplay is not as famous and loved over there as many westerners believe.

Hey,

Yeah I agree with the other I would think Harajuku would be the place to go because I know thats were lolita are and I love lolita's! Not to say the lolita fashion is a cosplay but thats where all the quirky dressers usually are. :D

There is nowhere that people go to cosplay on weekdays because they are all at school or work. I agree that cosplay is not as huge in Japan as a lot of people on this forum seem to think. There are a few girls who hang out on the bridge outside Meiji Shrine, but less than there used to be. Since they became a tourist attraction the tourists waaaay outnumber the girls these days. Other than that it's just during the big conventions, and the weirdly (but not really cosplay) dressed people in Harajuku and to some extent Shibuya.

That is so spot on, especially the popularity thing.

girls in maid uniforms always wander around in akihabara but thats just promoting the cafes and they don't like their picture taken, mostly you see them pamphlets in hand, looking bored talking to someone on their phone.

I did. It said "In order to experience the teenage culture at its most extreme, visit Harajuku on a Sunday". Alas, that is not when I'm going to be in Tokyo, so I was hoping for a second best.

@sarasi, thanks for answering my question. That's what I assumed/feared, but was just hoping.
