Japanese Fanshion Curiosity

Has anybody had questions, suggestions, and opinions on fashion in Japan?
Post them here!

Has anybody ever noticed how we always have to wear uniforms?
The girls wear thin clothes... wonder why... short skirt... arousing...
*cough* *cough* umm... yeah... gotta keep that to myself...
So then... why do us guys always gotta wear suits?

Whats with cosplay? so much of it.
Especially around the residential and anime shop areas...?

Does anybody ever wonder why some people have odd hair styles?
I personally like a girl with straight, shoulder length hair.

you know, in all my days there, ive never seen a girl like "that"...
how sad...

I see the short skirts as a form of rebellion, be it little. I remember my friends and I used to roll our skirts up shorter, just because we hated the uniform and the our teachers didn't like it.

You would think that wearing uniforms is to prevent stupid things like inforcing dress codes, which many wouldn't follow anyways, so yeah. Japan's a bit conservative, so it fits. The skirts, on the other hand, might have to do with the whole age-old 'girls wear skirts and men wear pants' thing. About them being short, I thought that many schools actually either let you buy your own skirt or they make you buy theirs, which is actually longer than the ones you usually see. The girls just customize their uniforms and make the skirts shorter by themselves. I don't know, that's just an idea of what it may be about the skirts. Nothing's for sure. XD

Cosplay is for fun, you don't have to question it. o_O And where it's worn has an obvious connection. If it's worn in anime shop areas, well, cosplay comes mostly from anime and games. -_- (A bit obvious.) Residential? I have no idea, but I have the feeling it has no direct connection to cosplayers.

Several reasons.
a) to be unique
b) to be noticed more
c) they just like it
d) they know someone like a band member that has a similar one or one that would fit the person, and think it's cool, connecting it to a, b, and c, haha. -.-

Also, using the word 'odd' is like saying 'why can't they all be normal?' Without unique individuals, this would be one boring place. o.o''' In my world, what defines normal is what the majority of people do, say, etc. If 90% of people said 'laekjr5alejrkej shouldn't be alive' and the other 10 said ';ejrlkjer is ok.', the 10% would be the so-called odd ones. So whatever stands out, that's all. Being unique in itself is a fashion.

Sorry, I'm very opinionated about this kind of thing. XD I know I just ranted, sorry. X_x'''''

CoolNard 04-21-2007 04:49 PM

No prob, actually, I agree with you 100% on everything you just said

Another reason is probably for being trendy tho... but since so many people are wanting to be unique nowdays... what's normal then? XD Being one of a kind is? kinda contradicts a lil if ya think about it... ow... brain hurts =P

TheFatalBeliever 04-21-2007 08:03 PM

Yeah, I've thought of that, too. XD But when you take what's 'normal' at the moment, it can still apply to what I said...I think. o.o XD I guess you'd have to think of it in terms of what's 'one of a kind' being something that stands out, I guess. X_X

CoolNard 04-22-2007 03:55 AM

Um... What do you mean "at the moment" then?

So if everyone stood out... Who would actually stand out? XDXD Hmm... I'm guessing everybody would be different... Makes the world more interesting... I see your point, I think n_n

TheFatalBeliever 04-22-2007 06:19 PM

haha, yeah, thats about right ^^ lol
