Okay so lets get this out in the open right now then. Who or shall I say what ethnicities are U prejudice against???
|
aw... Well, pardon me for being nosy, and excuse me for sounding nooby... *takes deep breath*
Because I haven't been around long enough to know what Kaicui-san is prejudiced against, I'll just state some stuff IMO. I'm designing some Japanese style clothings, though I am purely Singaporean Chinese. I believe beauty is to be shared among all, regardless of race, or ethnicity. I mean, this is what this forum is about right? For a person like me who loves fashion, especially Japanese fashion, to know that there are people who feel that Japanese fashion is not suited for "non Japanese people", it's just hurting. Are you saying that "non Japanese people" will definitely not look good in Japanese style? I don't think so. If my friends allow, I'll post their pictures to prove "non Japanese people" can wear Japanese clothes, and look just as good. And look at MariYa-san (pardon me for mentioning you), she looks wonderful, in J-Punk/Rock. Or are you maybe just prejudiced against the general "non Japanese people", whom you have never met? Or maybe some "non Japanese people" wore Japanese style and looked horrible? Yea, in the latter case, I've actually felt the same way as you for awhile, but I feel that's generalising the whole lot of people out there. Give them a chance, and they may look good. I mean, I don't think anyone meant to insult a particular enthnicity/culture/style by wearing it wrong. They probably just need good advice. And even with good advice they still look wrong... I wish them all the best... *sigh* I believe forums in general are for sharing good advice, information and stuff. Saying you're prejudiced and blocking information from other who needs/wants them is... well, uncalled for. Sorry if my long post offended anyone, I just needed to get it out of me... =) |

|
ok noted. =)
Oh yes, it's not english but, h.Naoto is good too... hehe... There's a good mix of J-Rock, J-Punk, Lolita, EGL, and I think there's an Indian ethnic line too... Was it Kugo? For both male and female. Man I'll wear the male clothes cos they look good too ;) h.NAOTO |

EDIT: just want to add something, like those people who dont want to learn their mother tongue, dont want to learn about their history.. their culture.. i think they're the worst of the worst... they think just because they're living overseas, they dont need to know these stuff.... >_<! |

This is speaking purely from my art history/design background:
It is absolutely impossible to segregate fashion/art styles. You really cannot make one style only available specifically to one race. Society doesnt work that way- whats in demand gets to the public, one way or another. Art is a species thing anyway, so is fashion and design, HUMANS create it not any specific race or country. It exists without boundaries and location borders. So should Japanese fashion NEVER be influenced by north american fashion then? That way it would be truly Japanese right? Cuz it already has been, sorry. Its ridiculous to say "only Japanese people can have this style"- But of course youre entitled to your belief. What exactly are you going to do to prevent the rest of the world from just copying the style and calling it American or French? And yes theres a difference between religious clothing or traditional clothing, such as kimonos, being worn for style purposes by people who dont participate or respect that aspect of culture--- and someone buying a Japanese visual kei purse and wearing it in Canada cuz she likes the music. But lets be clear. General fashion- brands, jeans, visual kei, etc, styles originally from japanese designers- is a worldwide thing the instant it develops and sells. It is influenced by the world prior to creation because we live in a society that doesnt allow you to exist without knowledge of the rest of the planet, and therefore cannot be said to be only Japanese or only American. Im abit groggy this morning so that probably came off as awkward but whatever..lol |
^maybe Kaicui is trying to say not all Japanese style goes well with everyone.. anyone watch the movie "The Last Samurai"? i watched.. Tom Cruise in a Samurai suit?.. just dont really match... maybe that's just me..

gloomth made a point. People create things and label them what they want. I guess people or objects shouldn't be solely classified by countries or even culture right now, cos with the way this world is going, everything is getting 'fusioned', east-meets-west kinda thing? I mean, I don't mean to offend, because if you say J-style, what do you mean? BAPE? Comme des Garscon? From a none fashionista's point of view, the shirts look like those you get from Billabong or Converse and all. But somehow I feel like puking saying that.
>theUnknown: about people who deny their own mother tongue and culture, I'm not sure if all of them are the worst of the worst or something. Living in Singapore makes me feel distant from its culture, which is basically a mishmash of everything. I feel I don't belong, and I don't even like my mother tongue (it's not my fault cos I couldn't choose my mother tongue =/ ). Not that I despise it, more like I feel uncomfortable using it. So I speak English, and strangely, I feel more at ease with Jap culture. I guess most people don't feel proud if they think their culture is "inferior" but yea, those who can't accept who they are, are really sad people. Lost too, maybe. |

This thread irritated me.
As people have pointed out, how can you possibly label clothing by where it was made or where it's popular? If we did this with everything then essentially most objects around us would be "[Third World Countries' name] Fashion" or "[Third World Countries' name] electronics" etc. I think some people, especially the threadstarter, need to stop being such idiotic bigots and open their eyes. We live in something called a "Global Society", that is to say a society which spans the entire Earth and includes everyone and things like racism and prejudices have no place aside from with other racists and judgemental fools. |
Yeah sorry, some of these posts have disgusted me. Prejudice will never leave this world. I am australian and on my trip to Japan I bought some nice japanese clothes which I am proud to wear. Here are some other points I want to mention:
1. Japan's fashion did not originate in Japan, they took western fashion to a high level and made it way more interesting. Before they were "westernized" they did used to wear yukata's, kimono's etc keep in mind. 2. Lots of japanese fashion magazines include westerners wearing 'J-style' Clothes, so what is this saying? 3. People should learn that saying or writing 'Jap' is as bad as the 'N' word. Its just not acceptable. Correct me if I'm wrong :) Thanks, thats my 2 cents :) |
you being such a twazzle
