Okonomiyaki
 

I'm just wondering if anyone has tried this snack from Osaka, Japan. I've never tasted it, so I was wondering. I've heard that you could put chicken on it and that sounds tastey. :rheart:

I had it several times. It varied in quality considerably from place to place, but in general, I wasn't a huge fan. I preferred kara'age, tonkatsu, donburi, zosui, and yakisoba. Okonomiyaki was ok when done right, though.

oh really? Yakisoba does sound delicious to me though.

okonomiyaki isnt really a snack persay, i dont think. but it sure is delicious! okonomiyaki o totemo oishiiiiiiiiiiii!!!

Big fan...really delicious stuff. Highly recommended. Everyone has thier own beliefs about what makes the perfect ingrediants.

DELICIOUS... it can be a snack and it can also be a meal.. the main ingredient is cabbage..

I have not tasted an okonomiyaki with chicken though.. its kinda weird using chicken on it :D or did you mean chicken egg??

the hiroshima okonomiyaki is a little different than that of osaka :D but both are yummy :D

I`ve never been an okonomiyaki fan. Some places are decent, some aren`t.

Personally, out of the same category, I prefer takoyaki or yakisoba.
Chijimi is also really good, but it`s Korean, not Japanese. Fairly similar to okonomiyaki though.

I happen to like okonomiyaki. I haven't had it yet in a place in Japan (haven't been to Japan yet either), but there are places that import the box mixes which aren't too bad. The best way is to make it yourself. I have experimented with at least 3 different recipes (one sent to me by a penpal in Japan), and settled on one I know is darn good. I even got to make some at an anime convention earlier this year at the request of the con chair and made a tidy profit. ^_^

A close cousin is monjayaki. Check it out sometime.
