you got chased by chickens too *hi5* XD

Its DURIAN, and i used to love eating it when i was younger, but now, it overwhelms me, the smell just goes WAAAY up my nose and i can't breathe.
I can't say it's nasty, because it is nice, but its just a really pungent taste and its certainly an acquired taste.

Heavens no, that would be illegal where I live. I already get enough hate mail from PETA as it is, bloody psycho's, and I don't feel like getting slapped with a lawsuit for killing fido. I'm just saying it probably wouldn't taste that bad if you made it properly.

Plus the dog's in america are raised as pets, not as livestock, and would probably be a bit insensative to the palate. Indians view cows as holy creatures and they would probably be disgusted seeing a plate of steaks (thats more of a religious thing but you get my point), when one can break free of their ethnocentrism a wide variety of ideas, and foods, present themselves. I'm simply speculating at the possibilities :D .

HAHAHA you got chased by chickens too. I have a feeling every Chinese kid gets chased by some sort of farm animal as a kid (seriously). My brother is the same. Same with some of my old friends, my cousins. Damn, it must be a curse, lmao!

Durian is more correct and Duran, but I've seen it spelled the latter a lot. I guess that would be the Engrish version XD

Hahaha, I know, I was just messing with you. I'm sure if you prepared it right it wouldn't be half-bad, but I just don't like the idea.

Aniki 12-11-2008 08:55 PM

I wouldn't mind trying a cooked dog.

Here's what I think is gross:

Cooked roaches,

Maggots,

Oysters,

Haggis, (for those who don't know, it's a Scottish dish made from the lung, liver, and heart of the sheep)

xYinniex 12-11-2008 09:00 PM

I LOVE OYSTERS with tabasco sauce and lemon obvs.
but its definately an acquired taste.

Theres a great oyster place ten minutes from my uni, about an hour away from home, but we used to go there for family trips out.

Arikado 12-11-2008 09:02 PM

Bugs and insects...eh, no thanks -.-;
I don't mind oysters, as long as they aren't raw. They're really good in seafood and noodle soups for sure.

Aniki 12-11-2008 09:17 PM

I tried eating oysters once, but they looked like boogers so I just could find any courage to try, before throwing up.

superheel 12-11-2008 09:34 PM

Street Food you should try in Philippines.

who eats dogs?

In Hawaii we make jokes about the Filipinos eating dogs, preferably black dogs, but I've never actually seen anybody eat one.

Altho, there was an incident where two maintenance workers at a golf course stole this guy's pet dog and ate him...

PockyMePink 12-11-2008 11:00 PM

I'm uber-picky, I don't have enough lifetimes to name all the foods that I think are gross (yes, that included Turkey, as well)

I hate everything except seafood, and a few other select items =P

tocrayzay 12-11-2008 11:14 PM

ok in the future we'll trade you get the mushrooms i take the kraut lol

kiyuga 12-11-2008 11:20 PM

They do eat dogs in the Philippines though not widely accepted by everyone. In Philippines dogs are'nt really just kept in their backyards. Dogs are free to roam around wherever they want, and if they are lucky enough, they'd end up being caught by what we call "manginginoms" or literally means "drinker" and cook them. Most of the time, these people will hang around with fellow neighbors to drink liquor and they will eat the dog each time they take a shot. They just dont eat dogs though, it ranges from as simple as nuts to as extreme as cats, monkeys or snakes.

Its very bland, I wouldn't reccomend. I tried it once, it was like the worlds most mediocre sausage immaginable.

VitalStatistic 12-12-2008 03:01 AM

Seaweed... I can't stomach that stuff.
I like any kind of sushi without it ^-^

Keaton421 12-12-2008 03:34 AM

Well glad to hear the response from the Muslim gentleman, can't seem tofind your post again.

Some people really disgust me, especially that chinese stuff :D Dog's brains? That's bad enough. I've heard of some Chinese contraption that holds a monkey's head so you can scoop out his BRAAAIIINNNNSSSS while he's still alive and kicking. That borders on cruelty in my book.

More creepy Asian food! Baby mice wine... oh Korea

To me, there are tasty foods, untasty foods, and foods that are just plain wrong. As much as I respect Chinese culture, for f*ck's sake people...

Further research on the table suggests that patrons take turns chipping away at the skull with a hammer, then they scramble the brains like an egg. Seems like they do this in Mongolia too

Yes but dogs arent raised as livestock in China or Korea either,
I saw in an old documentary of Chinese chefs grabbing a Mutt of the streets ripping its skin off , cooking it and then serving it to customers.

Imagine all the possible risks of getting a disease? Even if i was offered dog i wouldnt eat it.

Heres a picture of a women cutting up a dog in disgusting conditions..

I read somewhere that the Aztecs used to keep techichi dogs and some made use of them as traveling rations on the hoof, so to speak.

Let's just say that in some countries, they believe that cooking will kill all the germs, which is kinda true and chinese people are really good when it comes to proper cooking. Here in America, let's just say that treatment of dogs are over exaggerated. People here treat Dogs as human. Dogs are animals, and treating them like animals is not wrong. Though they should not be abused. We all have different cultures and what i hate is some Americans think that those people who eat dogs are evil.

By the way....Monkey Brain!

Another vile food occurs to me: Natto.

My god, natto. One of the few foodstuffs which makes me feel sick just thinking about it.

Kitsuneko 12-17-2008 07:33 AM

I found natto actually sort of tasteless, it was that super sticky mucilage-like goo the soy beans are suspended in that was really gross. It stuck to places you never dreamed it would stick on the human body, and it was a real comedy routine cleaning up...Ugh. At least Gramma was entertained...

:pinkcry:

As a terrible postscript, I thought perhaps there was something wrong with that first batch I tried, so, (stupid me) I tried another brand. It was right out of Ghostbusters, it was both a horror and a comedy.

Two quotes came to mind:

"Somebody blows their nose and you want to keep it?"

And...

"He slimed me."

AnimeBaby112 12-17-2008 07:45 AM

Dorian! so gross. My own cooking creations are pretty gross too:D

Whoa whoa whoa, I just realized that I've become the defender of people that eat dogs. Let me set the record straight, I do not eat dogs, I don't condone the rampant slaughter of dogs, nor have I seen them prepared or served.

I'm merely suggesting that one should keep an open mind when dealing with the cuisine of foreign lands. I like to follow the 'don't knock it until you've tried it' appraoch to food.

And FYI, it looks like this was taken in the poorer area of one of asia's larger cities. They can't afford the equipment of a modern slaughter house (band saws, fillet knives, stainless steal counters, gutting knives, bone saws, sterilized aprons and gloves, face masks, and a cabinate full of cleaning solutions). So unless you want to pay thousands of dollars so the lady can process her dog in an FDA approved environment let the woman work in peace.
