"Naked" Sushi

I was reading a few days ago on a website of what they are calling "Naked Sushi" arriving in Korea.

Apparantly it originated in Japan.

Just wondering if anyone has had the saucy experience of eating at a naked Sushi establishment and if so, how was it and what is the exact scenario regarding the "cleaning" of the plate;)

MMM 04-07-2009 03:55 AM

It is called "nyotaimori" or 女体盛り and I think it exists more in TV shows and movies than much in real life.

That's interesting mate.

I just did a search using nyotaimori and it seems more popular than we think;)

Here's a link with video for all interested and it seems to be rather common in the US. Nyotaimori - naked sushi… at Sushi or Death

You'd wanna make sure the plte had been well cleaned!

survivingonrice 04-09-2009 09:15 PM

ive heard of this being done with other foods too, just not sushi....uhhh yeah im just wondering who the hell thought of it

Did you actually read the link you posted? "rather common" is the last two words I would use to describe nyotaimori in the US.

"Hadaka sushi is one of the few places where you can actually order Nyotaimori"

"A Nyataimori...modell at Hadaka costs according to their website $1100 and does not include food, beverage, room charge, tax or gratuity. "

(How many people do you know who are willing to pay that much for a meal before even ordering the food?)

"Westerners say it is Japanese, while Japenese consider this to be a Western or even a Chinese phenomenon....it is considered quite rare."

Most everyone in Japan first encounters this idea in US produced movies about Asia or Asian crime groups (yakuza, etc). It`s not at all something people consider to be something REAL. Sure, there are likely a few places out there that do it as novelty, but I agree - by no stretch of the imagination does it even approach "common". Particularly in Japan.

KeithDas 04-21-2009 09:24 AM

Hmm

We'll to each they're own but seems a bit odd in a way.

nobora 04-24-2009 12:06 AM

Eww no gross! That'll ruin my sushi!

ozkai 04-24-2009 12:16 AM

Without knowing or even seeing the menu, you would think the soy sauce would make the plate a little messy..

I guess makes it all the more convenient to dip the Sushi;)

$1100 is a lot of rice hey!

You have to admit, it is a rather unique style of dining and I'm sure the price would warrant the plates salry, afterall, it would not be easy to find an employee to lay down naked on a table all night whilst the patrons push, poke and pluck with the sticks:eek:

Then again, it may be a turn on.. Who knows.. Either way, I've seen other uniqe styles of restaurants.

Take "No Hands Restaurant" for example in Bangkok:mtongue:

TalnSG 04-24-2009 09:27 PM

And here my past comes back to haunt............

Its really more common in the U.S. than most would think  ,
but not in restaurants.

Back in the 1990s this was a growing trend as a "party feature" in the more exclusive "kinky" lifestyle. Not always for sushi, but for serving many types of appetizers and party noshes. Just when the guests were known to prefer sushi over any other cuisine and could afford the catering, it was this presentation. The "serving platter" was always a volunteer, so the price was not bankrupting anyone.

So my guess is it is definitely American in orign.

momomaggie 04-25-2009 12:43 AM

1100, that is ridiculously overpriced. I wonder if there is ever any awkward banter or if you must keep your mouth shut. What happens if you must sneeze? So many questions...

momomaggie 04-25-2009 12:44 AM

I would gladly volunteer. It seems more interesting that modeling for art kids.

Please PM me as I'm opening a new restaurant up here;)

SaintKat 05-06-2009 03:05 AM

It's a cool idea in theory but I probably wouldn't be keen.

spicytuna 05-07-2009 01:56 AM

I heard that these girls go through hours of scrubbing prior to being covered with sushi. Of course they're also trained to remain completely silent and stationary while the dinner service is on.

I'd like to check it out but for a $1000, I'd rather check out a ノーパンしゃぶしゃぶ... which of course is another one of those urban myth type of places.

ozkai 05-07-2009 02:31 AM

I'm sure some of the tables would definitely be turned on with a dip of the sushi;)

sycayersou 05-13-2009 09:02 PM

Oh, god, I google'd it, right (cause like, I had no clue what it was), and look;

Where? I so fully wanna go!
Sounds like the most lulzy fun ever!

Also, I lol'd (not sure why) at this bit;

I've not giggled so immaturely since sex ed. classes. xD

kobenigri 05-19-2009 07:54 AM

Sushi should be in the table

I couldn't bear the "naked sushi". And this kind of Sushi will never record in my Sushi recipe.

xYinniex 05-19-2009 12:14 PM

Wouldn't the girl's body heat ruin the sushi? warm sashimi. Yeuch!

I'm sure the guys wouldn't mind;)

synok 05-19-2009 02:38 PM

I tried Sushi not too long ago. Must say that it had a strange, unusual taste for what I was used to, but it went down. The worst thing was the spice in the outside of the rice, which didn't taste that good. Otherwise, try it, it's delicious! :)
