Strange Japanese Ice Cream Flavors
I would actually try the chicken wing ice cream if given the chance. Nothing beats chicken wings... |
Cool!
Actually, most Japanese that I have met love seafood so whilst it may seem strange to some, it's probably really normal in Japan. Can you imagine.. hot Pink Bubblegum flavoursed ice cream:eek: |
Their Ice-cream flavors just seem all to weird but yeh, i would definitely try them atleast once. Who knew you can make ice-cream out of chicken wing or shimp flavors. Ha
|
i know wierd right but I do want to try some of them :D im so wierd |
when I go to Japan..i love their green tea ice cream..what seems weird to you..is not weird here..or course things are going to be different here..as it is another country...i am in MExico now..and their ice cream is also different from US:cool:

That Japanese I know are more surprised by the things Americans are happy to submit their digestive systems too. |

Of course its different in mexico. we got pepino con chile(cucumber w/chile) y mango con chile(mango w/chile) y pina(pineapple) with chile :D I love our ice cream.( mexico) |
The only icecream flavor that I saw everywhere in Japan that was weird was Green Tea. I really didn't like it at all. But in Germany I asked for Peanut Butter Icecream and the guy acted like I asked for shoe leather flavor. I guess that's not something they eat over there.
|
If you go to the country, you can get some REALLY weird stuff like potato, sweet potato, and eggplant ice cream. There are many more flavors but those are the only ones i remember offhand =/

This reminds me, in Thailand, I went out to dinner with a group of other foreigners once. When desert time came, one man (who had the nickname, Shrek, for his size and appearance) went and got himself a huge bowl of ice cream. He'd packed it to the top.
He sat down, but before he started to eat, he explained the difficulty of finding a spoon to eat with, not realizing the Thais use a Chinese soup spoon to eat just about anythuing, including ice cream. Seemingly dissapointed by his cuttlery, he said at least they actually have ice cream. At which point, he took a bite of what he thought would be lime flavored ice cream from its green appearance. He was not impressed and didn't eat any more. It was so funny. I don't know what flavor he had, but first up, their "ice cream" is made from coconut, not cream. Which would have been the first surprise. As for the flavor, I don't know, but you do get weird things like shredded pork and stuff served in Thailand. Most Asians fail to make the difference between sweet and savory tastes. If you buy bread, in Thailand, what may appear to be a cheesy savory bun is probably a sugary snack. Same goes for deserts; don't be too surprised if you pull a big chunk of pork out of your cake... |
Well Harry Potter had jelly beans that tasted like dirt, ear wax, or vomit. Which were actually sold in stores in real life.
|
Ok. Maybe peanut butter icecream isn't something the European Union is into, but MMM, cmon, you live in the US. Go to grocery store and try it!

Wait, weren't those jelly beans made by the Jelly Belly company? I remember seeing them advertised as Jelly Belly products... |

Maybe its just a Virginia thing... or SEastern US....since they grow peanuts there. I haven't seen any either, except for special mixes of it in one or two ice cream shops that are known for a wide vareity of flavors. Hmmm, green ice cream in Thailand? My 1st guess would be plantain .... if the guy was lucky. But I am sure the possibilities are endless. |
Like?

I wonder what a cactus tastes like.....*don't really wanna know*
I'd actually try the shrimp and crab ones...I love shrimp and crab, and any other crustacean for that matter. I'm so weird...:D |
cactii are actually eaten in some parts. it tastes sour and salty, I don't like it. but some cactii like the prickly pear bear sweet fruit, which would not be a bad ice cream flavor. i've only ever seen green tea ice cream as far as asian flavor in ice cream.

I'm tired of the non-Japanese people on JF who keep claiming that "they" eat normal things and the Japanese don't. |

Second of all, I'm pretty sure I didn't say that everyone here eat's those kinds of ice cream, nor did I write the article in the first place. I was merely sharing the fact that Japan does have ice cream in those flavors somewhere. Most Japanese don't cosplay and such either, but it's talked about a lot on this forum isn't it? So you can go be tired elsewhere :) |
Hmm, I would probably try the cactus ice cream, mostly because I have
no earthly idea what cactus would taste like 0_0 . The second one I would try would be the Eel ice cream, also because I've never had eel, and might as well try two new things at once ^_^ Interesting flavors, though I can't say I'm surprised. If you really thought about it, you'd notice the usual ice cream we eat already are pretty strange by themselves. |
I have it's freakin awsome!!
|
In my local Asian markets in the US we have ice cream flavours such as Green Bean, Red Bean, Taro, Lychee, Mixed Fruit and Beans, Peanut (not butter), Jack Fruit, and a few others sold in regular tubs next to more conventional flavours.
I plan on trying each and every one x3 |

Syrup on meat. Now, I've never tried it, and I'm sure maple syrup on bacon must be nice enough if a whole country eats it, but just sit down for a moment. Think how wierd that sounds. Also. I have personally seen sausages wrapped in chocolate chip pancakes on a stick. Plus so many foods are overly processed, greased and sugarized. But that's not to say you don't have good food as well- you do :mtongue: Just...there's also a lot of bad ones too. Also, on topic, I've tried green tea, and red bean paste. Matcha is used in a lot of things, and I've even tried Matcha green tea sorbet. It's actually very refreshing. But I think those flavoures are simply novelty, and are made from artificial flavours. |
Had wasabi ice cream at one place in Hakone I think...wasn't as bad as I'd thought it might be though, and wasn't particularly spicy!
