Ah.. gunblade007 wants Japanese last names...
Ri Reisen is Korean. Ruby Moreno is Filipina. Rikiya and Reina are given names, not last names. All the other names are stage names 'created' for show business people, and therefore are not actually existing Japanese last names. |
Why with 'R' anyway?
'R' to Japanese people is like 'L' in effect. I doubt there are any well known ones. Ren and Rin are more first names. I doubt there will be many family names beginning with R. |

i have a character in this story i'm working on. she's japanese but her last name is richardson which i don't really fit her japanese ethnicity. i know there is a few japanese with american last names but they live in america she was born and raise in japan that's why i was looking for the japanese name for richardson. and plus i kind of hoping to have her name start with a r kind of like peter parker, etc. -Joe:) |
Well, it is your story. Just in real life, it is very very rare to have Japanese family name beginning with R. That's why you can't find any.
Much the same as in the Western world, very rare to have a surname begin with 'X'. |
Myoji Kenbunroku lists family names starting with ra, ri, ru, re and ro.
Rikiishi (力石) ex.Tohru Rikiishi of Ashita no Joe Rokkaku starts with roku or six. Other examples include:
Kankichi Ryotsu (両津) is a well-known manga character. These names start with Ryu. The Ryuzoji clan was a Sengoku daimyo based in Kyushu.
