Hi,

first thing first. Welcome to the forum! im actually new here too. haha ^^

to my understanding. you can't learn a language WELL and Fast. i have studied japanese for 2 years in University of Toronto using Minna No nihongo.

i'm pretty sure that most of the people here will assist you the best way you can.

you can try finding a tutor doing a one on one tutoring, i think that would be the best way.

@html123 i hope in those 2 years you have used both minna no nihongo 1 and 2 because otherwise that is a very slow course.

Hi yes for the 2 years learning Japanese i am using minna no nihongo! i have tried other courses which are using Japanese for busy people, which i found nothing comparable from minna no nihongo.

anrakushi 03-19-2008 10:46 PM

but have you been using both minna no nihongo 1 and then moved onto minna no nihongo 2? i really hope so because minnna no nihongo 2 is still elementary/beginner level and i would hope after 2 years you would be about to start intermediate at least. When i used minna no nihongo i think we finished the second half of the first minna no nihongo and all but the last few chapters of minna no nihongo 2 in 4 or 5 months. that is why im surprised. this was not an intensive course either.

html123 03-20-2008 12:40 AM

yes i have been using minna no nihongo 1 then moved to minna no nihongo 2.

there is courses that you can take for half year credits for minna no nihongo 1 and 2...
but my requirements is 2 full year credits of a language course.

have you done the JLPT exam yet?

anrakushi 03-20-2008 12:56 AM

yeah i have, i took 3 last year because i wasn't ready for 2. this disappointed my old teacher as she knew i was better than that but i knew my kanji and grammar was not up to scratch to get a good score. i felt it was better to take 3 and do well than take 2 and get an average score. It allowed me to take the time before the exam to really revise everything for level 3 well. i thought that would be better than trying to cram new study with revision for level 2 into the small amount of time i had after returning from Japan. now i'm spending every day since the last exam studying for level 2 and moving back to Japan in a couple of months will certainly help.

That's good to hear...

when are you heading to Japan, and where are you planning to live? how long are you going there? are you planning to do the Jet Program or something?

anrakushi 03-21-2008 06:04 AM

I lived in Japan for one year until August last year in Shiga-ken (滋賀県) but studied at two campuses one in Shiga-ken the other in Kyoto-fu (京都府)

I have applied for JET as it is a great set-up they have and im more than happy to be thrown into a small town. waiting for interview results. As Australia has a working holiday agreement with Japan, that is my fall back plan if i fail to get into JET. So if i get into JET i have no control where they will put me. If i go back on working holiday visa I will go to Kansai (関西) region again because I can play Australian football there, i love the dialect and i know many people in that area. The obviously i will change over to a proper working visa some time later on. timeline, JET = July, WHV = June (takes 6-8 weeks to process)

I will stay in Japan at least 6 years then I may move to Korea. Otherwise i will stay in Japan until I die if conditions remain agreeable to me there.

yourself?

Hi Javi.
I've been learning it for months
I dont have any textbook, I learn purely from games and anime.
I think , if you will find it fun to learn it that way. School and textbooks are tooo boring lol

anrakushi 03-21-2008 11:24 PM

dragonshade: maybe that is true for you but since i can't stand anime/manga and i don't like playing games much i would say your way would be a crap way for me :P
