non-kanji flashcard program?

I'm trying to find a free flash card program that lets me create my own flashcards to help me remember my vocabulary, but all I can find are programs for learning kanji. I looked on the Japanese resources sticky but I couldn't find any links to anything like this. So does anyone know of a program along these lines?

ありがとございます。:vsign:

I just played around with this site, seems to be what you're looking for:

Flash Cards - Create, Study and Share Online Flashcards

Simple registration, free to use.
You can create your own flashcards, or browse for ones others have created.

Cool, thanks, this works :D The only thing is that it doesn't recognize kana, but I suppose I can live with that >.<

It should recognize kana, I was making cards in kana and kanji.

Hm.. I think I might know the problem... I can't install kana support on my computer so I have to copy and paste from a program I have to use to type.. and it won't recognize that I guess? Not sure.

It may be a typo, but the phrase is ありがとございます.

Off topic, I know.. but I've seen many other people on JF making the same mistake so I thought I might point it out.

tsukimoon 06-01-2008 03:10 AM

Haha thanks xD Every single time I type it I'm like is it おう or お?? So then I always assume it's お because I see lots of people make the same mistake >.<;;

They go directly from romaji, so that's why they do it. People seem to think the name of my city is Tokyo. But It's actually Toukyou (in kana it's とうきょう ). The sooner you leave romaji behind, the better. I think you will soon be typing kanji as well as kana. To get 東京, one needs to type TOUKYOU first and change it to kanji. If you type TOKYO, you will never get either of the two kanji right.

Hope to read you in the Japanese chat and the kanji threads soon!

Thanks, I hope so too xD I really can't wait until I know enough to participate in those threads! Can't ever learn fast enough!

I have an off topic question for you so I shall PM ;)

Yeah, I don't like using ローマ字 at all. But a lot of beginner practice sites don't use kana.

I know it is 2008, but wouldn't it be easier to make actual flashcards? I mean with 3x5 cards?

Nathan 06-01-2008 04:00 AM

Most likely, but if they are on an extreme budget, this is free.

Ha ha. 100 flash cards cost less than a dollar. The internet and a computer cost a lot more than that...

Nathan 06-01-2008 05:06 AM

I like hand-made flashcards personally, learn-by-doing rather than learn-by-seeing.

Maybe he's really stingy?

MMM 06-01-2008 05:10 AM

No, she's like most people nowdays that only want to do things on the computer, when physical flashcards are less time-consuming, portable, and you are right, the MAKING is what really gets them in your memory.

I don't blame her, but am just pointing out there are other ways to make flashcards.
