Pimsleur japanese

Is pimsleur any good for learning japanese.

I like Pimsleurs products for getting fluency after you know some of the material.

Learning to read a bit helps with understanding how words and sentences are made up. Just remembering and blurting out phrases etc is not really understanding and doesn't allow you to be creative because you won't know how.

Pimsleurs doesn't teach you intensified or wide-ranging topics. It doesn't dwells into details. It focus on prepared texts and set phrases. Then it drills you repeatedly within these texts and set-phrases. It provides you explaination on these.

Therefore, if you were to start from nothing and began with Pimsleur, your Japanese wouldn't go anywhere other that what has been taught.
However, if you had started on Pimsleurs with some basic understanding of Japanese, THEN I believe that you would benefit better from it. It would enhance your understanding of the subject better.

At least, that is how I felt about Pimsleur.

But i think it's a good source of basics if you need to learn the language in a hurry.

Which is exactly why its good for beginning. Gorotsuki Im gona disagaree with the other guys. Pimsleurs definately wont teach you everything or make you fluent but its definately going to teach you alot of usefull stuff. Whats the chance that your going to need to talk about the nutritional values of eating yoghurt?? Thats why Pimsleurs is supposed to be so good it wont teach you things you dont need to know right at the start. Why dont you go read some reviews on it? everyone has a differant opinion but ill bet you have a very hard time finding a bad review for the pimsleurs lessons.

You might not be worried about how fast you learn, but iv been learning really fast. It recommends 1 lesson a day but you actually learn a fair bit in each lesson and then after that lesson is over thats not the end it will incorporate some of it into the next lesson along with new things so you dont forget.

I suggest checking out the website for the "pimsleurs approach" and then reading some reviews.

Anyway i love it. The lessons are great. The lessons are like 25 - 30 mins long and they really do work. I mean why would i say its great if it wasnt working for me?? I really do think its a great way to learn.

Oh and its 90 lessons all up - like 45 hours worth of lessons? Anyway i have no problem recommending it. I think its great.

It's not that I ran Pimsleur down with my opinion, yunno. In fact, I said that if one were to take on Pimsleur with some basic understanding on hand, it would greatly benefit them. This is the group of learners that I am actually recommending to.

It's not like I don't know what I'm saying because I have Pimsleur.

I say it again. Pimsleur relies heavily on the provided texts and set phrases. It drills you over and over again within these texts. You certainly don't learn much grammar here. Unfortunately, the grammar part is the most important thing in learning REAL Japanese. Unless you are satisfied by being just a tourist in Tokyo and able to memorized all the given set phrases in its situation dialogues, you will find their lessons wanting.

One thing I do find good about Pimsleur is that their lesson drills are quite good. They are tailored in such a peculiar way that they make you remembers them well.

This is just my humble opinion. Of course, there must be many out there who simply adores Pimsleur, just like you.

It helps with fluency. I've used them.

If you want to be fluent it shouldn't be the only thing you're using to learn Japanese.

It's really boring and is sort of fast paced so if you're an absolute beginner at Japanese and have no experience at all it could be sort of confusing.
