Need A Nice Japanese Name

Hi I'm a fanfiction author and I've recently decided to write Japanese fiction. SO I really need a nice Japanese name for the female lead.

I need a name which could mean one of the things below:
Blue Star
Dewdrop
Snowflake
Shooting Star
Or anything that means innocent or has star in it.
I need both the first and family names as well. I'm new to Japanese you see.

well hoshiko is a female name you could use. hoshi means star and ko means child and is a common ending for girls' names. and here's a link for surnames:

Who would you want the name to sound/look good to? In other words, what language group readers do you have in mind?

I could give you as many Japanese names as you want, but not all of them would sound good to those outside of the Japanese-speaking world.

haelin 09-05-2008 03:06 PM

Well, it's an English fic. So doesn't matter much. As long as I explain later to them that the name's beautiful and has a nice meaning.

Also I really like Hoshiko.
Is there anything that has Snow it in as well? Like "Blue Snow"?

Just asking though.

Dekai no Oppai. Is a good one. lol or maybe. Kampeki Shipai

No in all seriousness how about.

aoyuki means blue snow but i think it's used for a last name

haelin 09-06-2008 09:32 AM

I thought Tanaka Hoshiko was a good name.
What do you think?
Do you guys know any better ones?
Also does Tanaka have a meaning?
Could someone please translate the meaning of both names?
I really appreciate the help.

-haelin.

Debezo 09-06-2008 04:05 PM

Tanaka means ricefield-center. Tanaka is so common name, be ranked in the top 10.
Family name with snow at random,
Yukino snow-field(plains)
Yukisiro snow-white, snow-castle
Yukimura snow-village
Matuyuki pine tree-snow
Sirayuki white-snow
Fubuki blizzard
etc...
Fubuki and Sirayuki are a real name, but sounds a bit fictional.
Aoyuki sounds fictional, but not so weird.
Hosiko can be used as a family name too. Seiko is more common reading as a given name, but Hosiko is ok too.

aiyumecool559 09-08-2008 03:41 AM

Blue star, aoihoshi, is good but long name. Maybe if you like

Hikaru or Hikari 光 mean "Shining" or "light".
Hoshi 星 is a name and hoshiko 星子 too.

Good names too, Mami 真美, means true beauty. Ayane あやね is a good name too. Or Ayumi, あゆ美 is a good way.

Last name, very common is Suzuki and Sato. 田中星子 is a good name.

yuujirou 09-08-2008 03:48 AM

yuki kaze

or.....

yuki-onna =D

フフフフフフ〜
^_^

If you want an authentic-sounding surname, here is a list. (Don't use Tanaka or Suzuki because they're so common, your readers will assume you didn't bother to do any research!)

Sekine
Hasegawa
Ochiai
Adachi
Yasuoka
Terashima
Ogawa
Okawa
Miura
Koga
Higashi

Just off the top of my head...

suishinshi 09-08-2008 12:08 PM

about stars

how about Subaru昴 ?
Subaru is a kind of stars, means shining star.

and Ginga銀河, this is male's name, means galaxy or milky way.

how about Soh Hoshino 星野蒼, 星野 is Hoshino and family name, 蒼 is Soh and last name.
This is male's name, but be able to used female.
Hoshino means star ground, and Soh means blue, especially sky blue.

the other family name, Hoshikawa, Hoshimura, akaboshi,
hoshikawa means milky way, Hoshimura means village of star, akaboshi means
red star.

next i write about the others.
good luck!

Seriously, I didn't expect people to reply to my thread. :0 This forum is so nice.
Anyways, I decided to use Hoshiko as the girl's first name. But so far I haven't found a nice family name yet. Can anyone suggest some more? Feel free to use any name you see fit even if it doesn't fit in my criteria.

yay you picked hoshiko!! glad to be of assistance ^^

Wasabista 09-09-2008 03:07 AM

Can you give us something to work with on the surname? What kind of family background etc.?

suishinshi 09-09-2008 09:16 AM

Excuse me but Hoshiko is so forced name I think.
I've never heard such a name, about first name, or family name.
it maybe better Seiko as a name than Hoshiko, they are same means.

By the way, name that means Dewdrop,
I have only one word, Shizuku.

haelin 09-09-2008 03:16 PM

But I really like Hoshiko.
And about the character, it's a Naruto fic. So technically she's a ninja.
I don't know what else I should tell you. So I think it'd be better if you guys just asked me direct questions of anything you want to know. That way I can help you with the answers. :) Just shoot the questions.
P.S. Can Haelin be used as a Japanese name?

I thought you were looking for a Japanese name.... Hoshiko? That's pretty straining. I'm a native speaker and those two members who have come up with 'Hoshiko' aren't.

What does it pronounced? It sounds like Chinese.

Ok then if Hoshiko's a bit straining, can you suggest some other name?
Something that has either "Snow", "Star", "Sky" or a name that has a pretty meaning that starts with H.

What do you mean by what does it pronounce? I just picked it off some cartoon. They wrote "Haylin" but I changed it to "Haelin".

In my opinion, Hoshiko has no problem if it's in Naruto fanfic.

haylin is chinese name, isn't used in Japanese.

haelin 09-12-2008 04:13 PM

I've actually decided not to use Hoshiko since some people were against it. I will use it in the fic but not as the main character's name any longer.
So, I'd really appreciate it if anyone could think of a nice name for a girl that starts with either H or K. And a last name as well. Cause my fic can't be posted yet because of the name problem. :)

-haelin.

haelin 09-13-2008 04:45 PM

Hey I researched some names on the internet and found these. What do you guys think of using them as the given name?
Hanako
Haruko
Harumi
Hiroko
Hiromi
Kazumi
Kiyoko
Do you think any one of the above names are suitable for a girl? Please choose one, which isn't also straining to pronounce.
I still need a family(last) name however. And could you help me think of one that isn't common and that starts with either a H or a K?
Thanks to everyone who is replying. I really want to post my fanfiction soon.

-haelin.

gymnastar1326kairi but I wouldn't look untill at the earliest this weekend though, or you might see some nasty stuff (cuz I had to replace my hardrive and still havent hooked up my scanner and I lost the old scans when they replaced it). Any ways I've rambled on long enough now, but if any one has any requests as far as names go I am extremely indecicive and need the leed female, friend, and several other names for the magic girls and guys. Dont ask...yet;) !

~thanx!:rheart:

haelin 11-01-2008 05:30 PM

Hi, I actually chose the name Hayato Yukari. Does it have a strange meaning or is it too straining?

Also I need another help. I know that Sakura is the romanisation of cherry in the Japanese language. So could anyone tell me the romanisations of these phrases?
Lightning Star
Shooting Star of Light
I don't mean the kanji of these phrases. Just need the romanji, the sounds of these phrases in Japanese.
Like "Ichigo" means Strawberry", right? :D
Thanks a bunch guys.

LOL You just said you didn't know ANYTHING about Japanese names. I'm tired of people pretending to know about things Japanese when they know nearly nothing.

Dear God, you people just keep showing up like zombies don't cha? Where's Ash when you need him most?

If:
-you have never been to Japan,
-you have not lived in Japan for at least 2 years,
-you don't understand Japanese,
-you don't fully command the Japanese culture,
-you are not Japanese in some way, shape, or form,
then do not, under any circumstances, write a piece of fiction centered around Japanese people, unless you plan on giving it the title, "Another Crappy Piece of Fiction About a People I Don't Fully Understand but Enjoy Anyway Since They're So Nice."

If, however, you do not meet any of the above requirements, then write and publish that work ASAP.

And stop calling yourself a fanfiction author. That's the biggest oxymoron I've heard in a while.

Ningyou 11-20-2008 09:43 PM

Look up a list of Japanese baby names. That's what I did when I was writing a story and I had a Japanese character in it. It's actually really helpful. Or get a name book. There's a lot of good stuff like that for writers, or just for naming in general.
