What does アル中でもなく means? Thanks in advance

its from the sentence アル中でもなく、薬をやっているわけでもなし、睡眠も ちゃんと。。。。

アル中 is shorthand for alcoholic. So basically, in the context of the sentence, it means "I`m not an alcoholic"

Out of curiosity, how is アル中 pronounced? I know that kanji there can be pronounced as "naka". Is it Arunaka? In a plain sense to say "I am not an alcoholic" could one say, アル中じゃない。

The word is read アルちゅう, and not　アルなか.

It's shorthand for アルコール中毒.　アルコール means alcohol and 　中毒(ちゅうどく)
means addiction.

「アル中じゃない。」 sounds so sloppy that you could actually sound like an alcoholic if you said that. lol Please learn to say 「アル中ではありません。」　

Oh, okay. See, I can recognize some Kanji, just don't know what it is with other characters and would automatically assume "naka' in that case, which didn't make sense, which is why I asked.

As for that Aruchuu ja nai thing, just wondering how you could say that plainly and "ja nai" is the main thing that came to mind to use. "de wa arimasen", I learned that too.

Nagoyankee's point is that if someone accuses you of being an alcoholic, it sounds more believable if you can answer formally, as drunks don't tend to be able to speak formal Japanese well.

You know, that's interesting to know. If I ever write a story, and need to indicate the character is drunk, I'll use that. :p

Hmm, isn't 中 the kanji for middle/inside? Stuck in a pit of alcoholic reliance I guess, just another weird use of a kanji I suppose.

Yeah, it is, that's why I was asking how the word was actually pronounced in that instance since I only know that kanji to be read as "naka" which does mean "inside".
