I would see it useful if it was done in kanji or at least in kana...but romaji is really useless. I really can't understand people who want to learn Japanese, but can't seem to be wanting to spend sometime to learn kana.

I think its OK since the thread's directed at beginners, it's good vocabulary practice for them. Even if they're just using romaji and can be saying more than 1 word with the romanization of the kanji. ;)

I have never said to quit it and never said they couldn't start a thread if they wanted to. I was saying that they should make it more useful and as far as I know you can get to see Japanese character easy through Windows or external IME. If you are serious about learning Japanese you should get the right tools to do it. Let's be honest...romaji is not Japanese and it shouldn't be considered as learning tool at all (and mind, I am a beginner too with just a couple of months study on my back).
Here's a way they could play it...much more challenging and teaching. I give a word as example to show the way I see such a game as useful.

HANA はな 花 = Flower.

Never meant to be confrontational; sorry if I made a grievous mistake in my Japanese which conveyed that feeling. I pretty much agree with you 100% :)

It annoys me to see so many people ask questions about Japanese, and then tack on "in romaji plz" at the end. Sure, some of the people here aren't serious about studying the language to fluency, and only want to learn some casual phrases, but I'd wager that just as many are serious, and they're laziness with regards to the writing system will only hamper their progress.
