What does the name Tokuro mean?

My father's name is Tok which is short for Tokuro.

in the title "となりのトトロ", Totoro is in Katakana, so I assume its a made up name? Means same thing in Japanese as it does in English?

1) How old would he be if his father was named after a movie that came out in 1988?

2) TOTORO and TOKURO are completely different.

The kanji would be most helpful, as the actual meaning of names are typically derived from kanji. (Except in some obvious cases in anime, such as Sailor Moon, whose real name is Usagi Tsukino, literally Rabbit of the Moon. XD)
