Canon Wordtank V320

I'm going on a Japanese exchange this summer, and they recommend that I purchase a electronic dictionary. It seems like this model is not only the best deal, but also has the best features.

Does anybody know about this particular one, or wordtanks in general?

IS there a different model I should look at instead?

Thanks, and sorry if this is the wrong sub-forum.

They're expensive here.
Most denshi jisho's are like 30 000 to 40 000円.

I have a couple of students using the wordtank thingy.
I'd imagine they're all much of a muchness.

I know that they're expensive. I won't be getting it in Japan, though, because they have them on the internet.

Why not get it in Japan? They have all the same models, and you get the benefit of being able to test the display model. The price difference is negligible.

Edit:

MMM makes a good point. What you'll need to use it for during your exchange is a big factor. If all you need is a simple daily-dictionary, a DS and a DS dictionary would probably suffice.

Buy Kanji Sonomama Rakubiki Jiten (Nintendo DS) - Play-Asia.com

Potentially saving you a couple hundred dollars if you already have a DS.

What do you plan on using the dictionary for?

IMHO the iPod Touch (or iPhone) are the best and cheapest things out there...

Full japanese dictionaries like Kotoba and "Japanese"
Built in Kanji handwriting recognition and ability to type in kana
Japanese flash card apps..
so much more...

I'm surprised no one has made an app in which you can take a picture of a kanji and have it identify it... now that would be awesome

iPod Touches start at only $229

I don't know... I'd really like to have it before I go.

If you have a DS I recommend Kanji Sono Mama Rakubiki Jiten (漢字そのまま楽引辞典)

It is about 35 dollars and can do what you need, more than likely, depending on what that is.

i\'ve heard about that, but unfortunately I don\'t have a DS. Also, even compared to the big Wordtanks, the DS would seem pretty big.

The DS Lite is actually smaller than most electronic dictionaries. Plus there is also the ability to use it for a multiltude of software.
