I don't think anyone is 'attacking' anyone, at the end of the day nobody is going to stop doing what they want because a person on a forum said so.

If you are going to look like an idiot with that kind of tattoo on you, then it's better that someone is honest about this so you get both sides of the story before you get something almost permanently inked on you.

Nobody has said anyone is stupid or racist, just that they need to think things through before tattooing themselves with writing they aren't sure the meaning of. It's common sense. Obviously, the person has come here for opinions on it, otherwise they wouldn't have asked. If you ask for help/opinions then you should expect an honest answer.

In any case, the only way I can think of to say what you want is 「成仏、お父さん」

I'd like to see what would happen if the tattoo was a reference to death and the Japanese could see it. That person would probably be treated worse than Yakuza since death is such a taboo thing there.
I knew a guy who was a funeral director in Japan and he had other business cards made up saying he worked in chemicals because he gave a funeral director card to a girl (she didn't understand his job when he told her), and she went running and screaming away.

Death should not be taboo. It's an unavoidable part of life and there HAS to be people that deal with that matter. And those people deserve respect for doing so. I don't care if it's a part of culture or whatever, it's sad that death is looked at like some bad omen or curse. Fortunately, the girl you spoke of is a nut case and that situation is rare. Most people in Japan (this generation) have a better open-eyed view.

That is baseless discrimination that is fortunately, but slowly, being squeezed out of the Japanese society.

Nice how you pick a bad example to represent all those who like to have tattoos in Japanese. Bad order, bad message, and hiragana just doesn't look as good, which is why I'd recommend Chinese over Japanese for an artistic merit. But help out these poor souls before they ingrain a mistake into their skin... Although even I would recommend that people not get tattoos all together (usually regret it), I won't impose my personal opinions on what to do with your own body.

In any case, would you also agree that any language tattoo is dumb? They done all the time in America whether it be English, Latin, or Spanish, etc. I don't see the difference. However, if you do think they are dumb, then the point of this derived debate is moot.

I don't think that all language tattoos are "dumb". I think getting something written in a language you don't speak is a little silly, though.

i believe most people here (on JF) will not get a kanji tattoo, but hey, we all need a laugh when kanji tattoos go wrong.
go big, or go home (with a bad kanji tattoo), haha

there should be an official KANJI TATTOO thread, because it gets tiring seeing new threads about kanji tattoos and the same thing has to be repeated by MMM over and over.
