simple question
 

i want to say something like im ok with japanese but i speak japanese very slowly,


is this acceptable:

Q: あなたの日本語はどうですか?
me: まだ上手です, 然して 話すのスピード が 遅いです

No. You would not say it like this.

If you were asked　日本語はどうですか。

you should answer something like ちょっとだけ分かります。 or something on those lines. まだ上手です doesn't make sense. I think you mean まだ上手じゃないです。

The question is perfect but the answer contains some serious errors.

まだ上手です makes little to no sense. In fact, I, a native speaker, don't know what that means as it simply isn't said in Japanese.

If you MUST use まだ, you can say まだ上手ではありません, which means "I'm not good yet."

If you want to say, "I'm ok.", you can say まあまあです. 上手です is gramatically correct but we don't ever say 上手 about something we do ourselves. It can only be used to refer to something other people do. In other words, we just don't say in Japanese, "I'm good at ~~~." This is a cultural thing that isn't about to change. It will make you look very bad if you say that.

然して???:confused: 　 Wonder how old a book or dictionary you're using. The vast majority of modern-day Japanese live their whole lives without ever using that word. Use でも or しかし or が.

話すのスピード が 遅いです. Drop the の.

To use as much as what you used:
「まあまあです。でも話すスピードが遅いです。」

More naturally, however:
「まあまあですが、あまり速く話せません。」

Yes...no matter how good you are, say you stink. That is Japan.

I have been a student of Japanese for 20 years or so, and I still say I stink, even though it is what I do for a living. That is how Japanese language works.

hey thanks for the answer, anyway how do i decide when or when not to use the の

anyway does 速く話せません means i don't understand if "he" speak too fast or i cannot speak fast or both

1. の connects nouns when using a descriptive clause. 話す is a verb, so you do not need の.
日本語が話せるともだちのカイル "Kyle, my friend who can speak Japanese"
日本語が話せるカイル "Kyle, who can speak Japanese"
ともだちのカイル "Kyle, my friend"

2. It means "I cannot speak rapidly."
