Japanese engraving translation - national parks service historical preservation.

Kennecott Stone Engraving

Can someone translate this stone engraving?

My lady is working on a CLI - cultural landscape inventory - for the national parks service in Alaska. Her site is an old mining town and she needs this stone engraving translated. You'd be helping preserve a piece of this sites history and heritage.

Thanks peeps.

It looks like the gravestone for a man whose first name is Hayataro. Sorry that's the only part I can read for sure.

I can almost see the word Matsushima, which might possibly mean that he is originally from a town named that (which sadly are numerous).

This is just a shot but you may want to look at this list for a Hayataro Osumi.
