"Ten" in English

I heard that the Japanese word 'Ten', meaning Heaven and such, also means immortal and that in folklore the Kanji for 'Ten' would be on someone who has become immortal. Is this true?

Hmm... 「天(てん/ten)」, when used by itself, usually means 'heaven/Heaven' 'the sky' 'God' or maybe 'the ceiling'. When used as part of a compound word I think it can mean 'the Emperor, 'the climate/weather,' 'nature/natural,' 'the top' 'fate' etc., but it doesn't remind me of 'immortal' or something...

I wonder if OP is being confused by the 天 on the back of Akuma's gi in the Street Fighter games.
