Takeshi Miike films
Well of his movies I've watched Visitor Q, Ichi The Killer, Audition, One Missed Call, and Dead or Alive (not to be confused with the game one lol)
All I have to say is this guy is definatly unique. I know alot of people view his movies as morbidly grotesque, raunchy, and maybe too controversial, but his movies definately stand out. What do you guys think? If you havent seen any of his films yet, I would warn you before you do. It's not for the squimish. |

Yeah, he does have a passion and even though he is trying to express his films in a style of art, it can come off a bit too strong for someone not familiar with his style. I have to admit though his movies always leave me with an open minded sense. Kloudcat I've seen both the American and the Japanese version. All I have to say is that the American version is MUCH different than the Japanese, but most of the US remakes are, to appeal to the US audience. Japanese movie confused me to be honest. When you think the movie comes to a resolution, you never really find it in a Japanese horror film... |
Audition is probably my favorite of his films. It really keeps the audience guessing. I also like Gozu, as it is very over the top, and the ending of Dead or Alive.
|
Loved Ichi the Killer. Did anyone understand the ending of Chakushin Ari/One Missed Call?
|
I'm a fan of Yakuza movies and I really liked Miike's Deadly Outlaw: Rekka. Ichi and DOA were good too, but I haven't seen Audition yet.
|
Bought and watched Audition yesterday. It was brilliant - a genuinely frightening horror/drama film which kept me on tenterhooks the whole time.

one of the greats in the horror industry.

I have a copy of Big Bang Love. Juvenile A staring at me...but I am a little afraid. Has anyone seen it?
|
I like his Movie Dead or Alive 3 I think it was (the one where they were both buddys and they died together at the end) when Rikki is wearing the lion costume. where they kill people for money then donate to the reach out programes. was that 3 or 2?. Oh I like Out Law Named Rikka too thats a cool movie.

Miike N°1 in my Movie Collection!
I like the horror movies he has made, but what I prefer is his craziness :mtongue: (Like some of you have experimented it in the Dead or Alive trilogy.)
Has anyone seen The happiness of the Katakuries? That's one of my favourites! This one is a family story with zombies and animation mixed in it... no way to explain this movie! I also love The bird people in China, a beautiful story in an amazing location, with that touch of violence that's hiding the heroes true heart... I'm not going to detail all of his movies (Ahh...Gozu, The great Yokai war, Audition...), I love them all (even those 'not so good' or 'with a small budget'!) OK I admit... I'M A FAN!!! :rheart: |

Takashi Miike is a genious of a director... His films are so buetifull. Lets see what have I seen?
Ichi the Killer, Audition, MPD Phsycho, Imprint, Gozu, Visitor Q, One Missed Call (one and two), The Great Yokai War, Andromedia (doubt anyones seen that last one it's a family comedy with nothing special about it). Pretty much everything he's famous to westerners for except Dead or Alive. Is that something I should watch? |
The Dead or Alive series is great. Especially the end of the first one. Maybe the best ending of a Miike movie ever!
|
miike is so great i like all of the dark and twisted things he puts into the movies like The Happiness of the Katakuris ichi the killer its all bizarre black comedy but i think he should stop making so many films per year and try harder on the good ones to make them great
|
almost all miike's film is related to horror.. anyone know whether he ever make comedies film?

Not anywhere near all his films are horror! The only ones that I've seen that I would call horror are One Missed Call, and Audition. And he even denies that Audition is horror!
I would say most of his films are yakuza probably...I'm not so sure about comedy but I assume he's done quite a bit since he's workedf with nearly ever genre. I'll have to be sure to see dead or alive, I want to put it on my netflix que but it's becoming impossible to put anything on my netflix que and veiw it within the same year. |
I've seen 3 extremes too. I just didn't mention it because Miike only directed one of the films in it.
I have already mentioned all of the other ones you linked to as well. Except for neighbor 13. Looks good. |

Saw Gozu yesterday, I think it's the most bizzare film I've ever seen.

The Bird People in China (maybe the only good Miike Japanese Film)
I am far from being a Miike enthusiast, but I must say The Bird People in China was a delightful movie. (I gave it 4 Siberians out of 5 in my review)
I find it a little sad that Miike feels compelled to make the violent trash that he is more generally known for. Even his Power Ranger-esque movie, The Great Yokai War, was sadly warped in its unpleasant and unnecessary use of violence. Just my take on things. :-) |
I love One Missed Call. It's my ringtone. :]

Wasn't a big fan of Gozu, felt that Cronenberg does this sort of movie far better. |
Just watched Visitor Q.
Very vile. |
I've got IZO and Deadly Outlaw Rekka.
|
I have not seen IZO or Gozu yet but I'm very interested in them. Any opinions on them?
