My favourite Japanese film of ALL TIME has to be Mishima! It is quite hard to get hold of if you live in England since it isn't available on Region 2 DVD but if you ever get the chance to watch it or you live in America or Japan then you MUST see it!!

It is a biopic about author Yukio Mishima and follows his life story partially with techniques that invoke stark naturalism and for the rest on beautiful stage sets to create a dream-like feeling and it uses the most beautiful colours you could ever see in a film. So completely shocking, yet artistic and beautiful and tragic at the same time.

If you have any vague interest in politics and art then you should love this. Plus it has an amazing soundtrack by Philip Glass!

I love that about Japanese films, the cinematography is amazing!

I've always had a major soft-spot for Miyazaki films, like Totoro, Spirited away, Howle's moving castle, and Kiki's delivery service.

Hold Up Down is also a favourite - only because it's so weird and *achem* stars Junichi Okada...

Aah if you appreciate cinematography then you should definitely see it! Lol I'm sorry, I'm just determined to force my own cinematic tastes on other people as it is my number one passion. :p I'll try and refrain from doing it too often, but I'm not promising anything. ;)

My favourite Miyazaki film is definitely Howl's Moving Castle. I was lucky enough to catch it at the cinema and it was so extra-fantastic on a big screen!
