Looking for Asian Movies/TV series

Hello all. I'm looking for some interesting Asian movies or TV series I can really get into. I'm not really picky about the genre of either, but I can't really stand to watch shows that have been around for 15 years and the pot of coffee the characters have been drinking is still there(some people probably know which long running shows I'm talking about).

The only Asian movies I have seen are:
Ju-On(American and Japanese versions)
Reincarnation
Infection
Ringu(American and Japanese versions)
Dark Water

I'm pretty much open to anything you can throw at me. No one can go wrong by recommending a BL series to me. Thank you in advance.

Why is it so difficult to look for Asian movies or TV shows? More are made in Asia than any other part of the world. Are you aware that there are over 50 countries in Asia and India alone produces more movies than the U.S. every year?

yellowmellow 05-06-2010 06:17 AM

All I wanted was a recommendation.

prixone 05-06-2010 09:10 AM

interesting suggestions, are there fansubs of these availble anywhere? That's about the only way I get to see these unless you can tell me that some us company has actually released them out here which I highly doubt. Also it would be the only way I could understand whats going since I dont speak Japanese

xHikariXCutenesSXAmex 05-09-2010 02:24 AM

I love Ninja Warrior! That is one awesome show. They're coming out with an American version too.

YukisUke 05-10-2010 12:58 PM

Try watching Boys Over Flowers. It's a Korean show and it's very funny and heart-warming. Plus you get to see a fair share of eye candy as well. :D

Jean2008 05-12-2010 03:17 PM

Does anyone of you already watch "Windstruck"? Well its a romantic-comedy film and have similarity in the story of "Ghost" by Demi Moore.

Michelle1968 05-12-2010 07:50 PM

I just finished watching the series called Absolute Boyfriend...that was pretty good.

Aliz3 05-26-2010 10:27 AM

BATTLE ROYAL (damn good action film in general based on a comic)

TABOO (1st japanese, and so far the best, film I've ever seen!)
Director: Nagisa Oshima. It has won multiple awards.

"It shows life in a samurai training school during the bakumatsu period, the end of the samurai era in the mid-19th century, specifically concentrating on the issue of homosexuality in the shudō tradition in the partially-closed environment." -Taboo (1999 film) - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

KAGEN NO TSUKI (btw, Hyde in one of the main roles as Adam)
Love story of such an passionate emotion that has the power to defeat even death itself. Besides; it's visually pretty piece of work. Can probably also be found from the net for free watching if someone wishes to do so.

Look up Kimura Takuya and watch any dramas he is in. My recommendation is Mr. Brain. :D

AllICanSay 07-23-2010 07:54 PM

Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon anyone??

I also enjoyed Azumi. It's about a female assassin.
Some other movies:
Nobody Knows, Hero (feat. Jet Li), Battle Royal, House of Flying Daggers.

TV-series
I'm not really into dramas but I do enjoy the so-called variety shows. These shows contain a lot of humor.

Invincible Youth is a Korean show which I really enjoy.
Some other shows:
Star King, HEY!HEY!HEY!, Star Golden Bell, Arashi ni Shiyagare, We Got Married.

then try looking for the original Japanese "Boys over Flowers"
Hana Yori Dango
Hana Yori Dango 2

In my opinion, it is so much better than the Korean version. For example, in the Japanese original, the girl looks like a teenager, in the Korean remake, the girl looked like she was 25 years old! Not saying the remake was bad, it was OK, I watched it, but the originals were smash hits in Japan.

Well my favorite Korean drama is a show called The City Hall. It's a reLly good show, I especially like how they have romance and comedy in it but it doesn't get all stupid like some others do. And a good movie is one called Old Boys, it's that kind of movie where towards the end it makes you go "Whoa what just happened!" yup.

Since you want recommendations, I'll be concise.

'爱 (ai)' or 'Love' - a Taiwanese melodrama about all political concepts and double-faces of "love". Plots and snappy retorts are in abundance.
You can find reviews and comments, as well as details here: Links on "Taiwan Drama <爱>" | Facebook

'Personal Taste' - a top-ranking Korean drama on radical romance; a comical/intense, love/hate relationship between your everyday clumsy dolt of a girl and a prideful workaholic of a man. Drives emotions like no other. Actors/actresses are great lookers too!
Personal Preference - DramaWiki

'The Curse (Noroi)' - a movie kinda like a Japanese counterpart of Paranormal Activities, except it scared the freaking sh!t out of me, more than P.A., even when you know everything's fake; my whole day just seemed weirdly spooky and alert (after) watching it. Takes a good deal of imagination and personal provocation to watch. Not recommended if you're into the explicit horror type.

BTW, if you really look, you can find websites containing a whole archive of Asian horror flicks.
