Metallica, hard rock? No way, that's one wrong thing to say, there's no resemblance in the riffs, no just no. Listen to Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and other metal bands. You cannot ignore the similarity with MEtallica. That's heavy metal. Slipknot is not real metal. Not for me anyway.

I'm not sure how a Slipknot/Metallica comparison works? It's not really the same genre, and both bands have separate but powerful sounds. [EDIT - it's always a bad idea to say you're going to be bigger than a band that is already freakin' huge, and silly to suggest it when you don't even share the same fan base to begin with.]

That being said, Slipknot's new stuff is poor. I was a huge fan of their old, old work. I'm more into my rumbling, thundering metal than the doomy sounds of their new song (Dead memories? I may have got that wrong). Although the song 'All Hope Is Gone' is much like their old sound and I love it.

I agree, comparing the two bands by the amount of fans is stupid. Have people already forgot how Tokio Hotel beat Metallica on MTV music awards.
I wouldn't say that Slipknot is better than Metallica in anyway. Metallica already became influential after their third album - Master of Puppets, which is right now one of the most influential trash metal albums of all time. And even after Burton's death when their style changed, their music haven't worsen, the "Black Album" proves that. While Slipknot already made 4 albums I see nothing special in them and I expected more from a band that has 9 members in it, especially in live concerts. When I see Slipknot performing, I see some kind of a freakin' show, not a concert where a band like Metallica shows that it can do even better then it sounds in it's albums. Sure Slipknot won lots of awards, but from the way I see it they don't have much of a competition with other bands of the same genre (or at least similar to them), while Metallica had much bigger competition and they proved that they're one the best all time metal bands.

You've been listening too much of all that death, black, viking and that other stuff, that you've forgot how good old metal sounds.

Are you people offending SlipKnot?
Because I hate metallica they are old and terrible.

minimin 02-01-2009 12:30 AM

I can't say Im a big fan of either but I like both alittle and if I had to pick I probably would pick Metallica, there old music is amazing in an epic sense. Back to Slipknot Id rather pick Stone Sour actually, between Stone Sour and Slipknot. I like Cory Taylor's voice in Stone Sour. Just my Opinion.

Listen dipshit! stop amusing me with your stupidity and read that part again.
I wasn't trying to offend him, I understand that he knows about metal and it's sub genres more than anyone else in this forum, so I was simply trying to say that he was listening too much of that other stuff, that Metallica now started to sound like hard rock for him.
