Boa Kwon

I'm surprised i don't see a thread dedicated to her, she is probably one of the most well known singer in japan [despite being of korean heritage!] With over 10 japanese albums [including compilation and remix albums] under her belt at 22 years old. Even if you're not a very big fan of her music. That is AMAZINGLY IMPRESSIVE!

Most of you will know her as the singer that sang the inuyasha opening! but this girl's talent is not to be messed with. Her voice has a massive vocal range and she's got mad dancing skills. [seriously, me and Nantena are in awe of her dancing skills]

There are lots of Japanese singers who have Korean heritage. It's just that a lot of non-Japanese fans don't notice this.

Anyway, BoA is interesting for having an unusual style during her debute.

I'm not a big fan of BoA.
But...she's absolutely gorgeous...& undeniably talented.
I wonder how her American debut went..I never kept up with it..
I reallyyy hope she did/does well(for an Asian in the American market)! She deserves it^^

DevilHunter04 06-29-2009 12:29 AM

BoA's great! I love her music, I'm really psyched that she's coming out in America! I practically freaked when I found that out (as well as finding out about Utada coming out in the US). I would love to see Boa in concert someday, and for her name to be a well known name all over. I also love her first name 'Kwon' it's really diffferent and nice.

or her age, she debuted at 13.

There is another reason why she prefers to write her public celebrity name BoA instead of Boa.

By saying Boa, it pronounces like [bow-uh] from English word for a snake. But saying BoA, it pronounces like [bo-ah] just like the original pronunciation.

Is this really true?

I mean, I know of Miyavi, but that's all.

back on topic.

She did the Inu opening? really? I like it, so it's cool to know who did it.

You can split them up into two groups. The koreans born in japan-miyavi & crystal kay
and now the sudden influx of korean bands entering the japanese market. Boa Kwon is the latter, along with DBSK, SS501.

She's got mad dance skills

Miyavifan 06-29-2009 11:55 PM

Oh, I see.....

dbskjfan101 10-16-2009 08:41 PM

NanteNa 10-17-2009 03:41 PM

Has anyone heard her remixed version of "Eat You Up" featuring Flo Rida?

Personally, I think Flo Rida kind of ruined the song.

Ooh, Nice to see this thread on the first page, in the middle of all the Jrock threads.

Anyone heard her hurricane Venus album? I love it.

I havent heard the remix but I do like the original Eat you up.

xYinniex 10-01-2010 01:11 PM

Not really a fan of eat you up. I think it's catchy and the korean music video was good. But really-'i'll eat you up, yum yum'

A bit too graphic for a debut? Though I guess we can't complain, since Katy perry's debut was about how she kissed girls.

anyone feel the same, or is it just me being a bit of a prude?

HAHAHA! Wow.. That totally reminded me of ''Feed the horse, yum yum'' (Danish song.. long story) xD but yeah.. The lyrics were rather... 'wtf?'-like. I LOVE the video tho.. The moves, the chemistry between her and the male dancer that she dances with at some point..

You're not a prude.. I thought it was kinda iffy too.

Jaydelart 10-05-2010 08:54 PM

I liked "Eat You Up". The reason why the lyrics didn't bother me is, to be quite honest, I could barely understand a word she was saying without a good amount of effort, aside from the chorus, "I'll eat you up". Her English is pretty good in comparison to most Asian artists, but her accent was still just strong enough to mask some of the lyrics, in my opinion.

Then again, I'm not that anal about lyrics to begin with, unless it's profoundly obscene or corny. I'm more of a rhythm-melody kind of person; If it sounds good, that's generally all I need.
