Sumo - May Grand Tournament, Tokyo
Konnichiwa! Having watched the last few sumo tournaments on tv, I now want to see the real thing, even if the fantastic Asashoryu has "retired"!!
Due to work commitments, I can only go at weekends and am planning on going on the first day, Sunday 9th May. I've looked at the Sumo Association website and am thinking of queuing up for the cheap seats (2nd floor general admission seats for 2,100 yen) on Sunday morning. The box office opens at 8am and my question is:- does anyone know (from personal experience or otherwise) what time I should begin queuing from?? I'm quite prepared to get there early (6ish) but obviously, would rather not if I don't have to :-) Thanks for any advice you can give! |
You don't need to get there that early, but at least you'll get a good spot if you do. The last time I went to a tournament there was quite a long line, but they seemed to find room for everybody. Bring a book to read while you wait, or bring a friend so you can take turns leaving the line to pick up snacks or check out the shops at the nearby station.

waa.. I also interested to watch live tournament..
but Tokyo is quite far from my place.. hopefullly I could watch it at Osaka this year.. |
Thanks guys! But Kyo, the Osaka tournament was in March! If Tokyo's too far then maybe you can make the Nagoya one in July - ganbatte ne!

March?! oooo... I've missed completely since I'm not in Japan at that time though.. thanx for the info though.. ;)
