Well, I'm sure highschool and colleges with have teams, but hockey really isn't that big of a sport in Japan.

Hey!

I used to play hockey, and I'm going to japan this fall. I was thinking about bringing my skates with me... not to play in a serious team, but I think it would be hella funny to be a few persons and play for fun. I heard there's a rink near takadanobaba, can anyone correct me if I'm wrong?

You're right. That's called Citizen Plaza, a complex for skating, bowling, tennis, etc. It's so often used for the shooting of dramas involving sports.

Is it possible for just random people to come to the rink at certain times for fun? Or do you have to be some sort of organization / team etc to use it?

I think what I mean is, would it be at all possible to gather up 10 ppl and use the rink (or part of) for a friendly game of "semi-hockey" (w/o all the gear etc) ? In that case, would it cost much ?

many questions I know, I'll be happy to get any answers at all.

Btw regarding the topic, there is a team called the "Seibu Prince Rabbits" right? Anyone know where they play?

I cheked their website. It says anyone can skate there for 1,300 yen a day. Members get to skate for 1,000 yen a day. It doesn't give you specific info about group use, but it says they rent to groups outside of their regular hours. So it should be worth making an inquiry directly.

The Seibu Prince Rabbits play all over Japan. I saw their schedule for last year, but it didn't look as if they played half of their games at the same place.

There is a team calls Tokyo Canadians in Tokyo. We practice @ Jingu Hockey rink which located in central Tokyo. If you interested to play with us let me know.

I don't know if I have time to play 'real' hockey so much... Hell, it was almost 4 years ago since I really played, would probably get crushed by you guys :)

Anyways, are you playing thru winter? If nothing else, watching a game would be fun.

If Ice Hockey doesn't work out for you, or even if you're interested, there is a street hockey league in Tokyo called Tokyo Street Hockey Association. I talked to some of the guys that ran, and they seem like a pretty good group :)

Hockey!

Alright, this might have been covered:

What's the hockey scene like in Japan? What areas would be best for any sort of hockey involvement?

From what I've seen, hockey isn't very big in Japan at all. The only thing I could ever find was a group that plays street hockey in Tokyo once a week. I also had many blank stares at my NY Islanders jersey when I was over there :p

Ice Hockey

There are many Adult and Professional Leagues. I have met a few goalies that play for teams over in Japan and China online and the ice hockey scene in both countries is growing. It helped for Fukufuji to get in a few NHL games for the Japanese interest to grow.
