You also have to understand, character design and story design is not actually a very hard thing to do. Rarley will they look at employing someone who wants to do only this. It is unheard of to me, actually.

If you look at the majority of people who together make the team of the game designer, they would have started in animation, or doing voices, or something simple for the company. And it is only once they get their foot in the door from doing simnple tasks when they can put up ideas.

... Good luck.

that's most applicable to most any job >.>'''

I think you have to ignore the whole deformed-character-style they have because it's all good fun. More equipment allows for more diversity in FFIX, different character combinations, no dull aspects of gameplay (Draw? Who came up with this? He or she should die!) and the story and music is really great (the story has similarities to FFVI, which is pretty cool).

I think FF started going downhill basically when Sakaguchi stepped down as a Producer. While this allowed them to reinvent themselves, they've really lost track of what the vision of Final Fantasy is.

I mean, in all honesty, wtf was FFXII's story about? It was politics here and there again and your characters were shallow as HELL.

Ummmm my first FF game was FF4 with Cecil ^.^ 7 was my second. I hated just about everything about 9 I disliked the story, characters, ability system, and honestly the chocobo game angered me to the point of no return.

Also fun fact the start guide for 9 was nearly useless as it kept referencing you to a website.

Yep, I know that. It's the same with a lot of jobs. That's why I'm really striving to get some work experiance in this field so they know, that I know how the system works. I don't expect to be the awesome head character designer straight away, but I'm hoping to get there eventually.

And thankyou ^_^

sorry but i hate people who whines but got nothing to make it better. If you think you are better than those who design FF put what ever ideas you got into words and present it to the public if you are as good as you think you are youll get the peoples attention .
if youll only look at the 2nd bolded phrase your right it would sound like me asking you to make a better FF.

But if youll look at my 1st bolded phrase youll get what i mean.

Not the greatest guy with grammar i usually mix grammar with rules of programming language.

Basic of programming

"draw" is decent at worst for me. You can gain access to lots of magic with it from your magic. and some unique magic from bosses and cards(IIRC). And draw is optional.
Why not just make characters have specific magic specification?
Its because the game lets you play different characters combination. Draw being optional and letting you get a wide array of magics is essential to accomplish mission or to survive.
** now thats how you should critic not something like "dull, boring or fun" and i think i see you claim that you examine the whole aspect of games.

anyway why do you always assume i ask something unreasonable from you?
I dont think its impossible to come up with a playable game single handedly considering todays technology and your "dedication"
-------
anyway good luck with whatever your planning with Unreal Editor. I am sure try your games if it ever get published in the future you can even slap it to my face if that happened, dont worry ill fly to you myself :vsign:

I guess it would be possible if you were a bum and could sit at home all day making games but everyone else has other commitments like school and work and we need to sleep too. Theres no time in the day to spend making computer games for me >.<

Sheesh you sure? im quite sure i got plenty of time in my highschool days i never really study at all at home and usually fooling around but still graduated 5th in a class of 120 students. if i worked on a game on the times i fool around i quite sure i could have finish a game if i were really into it.
And like i said "Icefrog" is still just a college student when he receive the responsibility to maintain the game "DoTA" a custom made war3 map that receive international recognition
heres a link on DoTA's history and its fame

He was able to "write" game layout already and he was decided on becoming a GD for a year now.

Well I'm passed highschool now, I take it your from America or something? I'm now in 6th form and it's a damn lot of work, I don't want to just pass, I want As. Aswell as that, I'm deputy head girl so I have tons of responsibilties and I'm also a volunteer, I help run a business and I run a Digital Art Class, so for my anything else is out of the question.

chaseme 04-18-2008 06:32 AM

im already in college
the OP said he wasnt even it in college.

i am volunteered helper for the project of our community church, i teach arts to kids

the college im in is the most prestigious school in my country for engineering students out of a thousand entrance examiners only a few get selected, and i have to maintain passing grade to stay.
the school is DLSU ask anyone from Philippines im sure they know of that school

and i have plans on starting my computer cafe business before the next semester,

even if im in college and got my weekends booked i could still say i got lots of time to spare for my passion not sure what you mean with 6th form but if its the equivalent of thesis making stage of college then yeah i wont have time. but i am sure that its not the case with the OP

Alastor 04-18-2008 07:13 AM

Tenchu: You're right about certain things, but it also differs from project to project how it works. And yeah, I am planning to work my way up (that's how I want to do it). Starting with QAteam, and then into a game designer in a team or level designer. I'll move from there.

chaseme: The reasons why I can't really work with my stuff are simple:

1) I have a hard time with Game Maker as I have to learn how to use GML to program stuff, and I don't have time to do all the sprite work myself.

2) I don't have a computer that will genuinely allow me to work with UnrealEd or Sandbox Editor. Not yet.

3) In order to make a game I am pleased with, I would need good programming skills, then I'd need the necessary programs for composing the music and sounds I want, and then I'd have to learna bunch of visual art in order to create the visuals I want. Don't have time, don't have the money.

With GML, I'll be able to make a side-scrolling platformer that I've always wanted to do. With the other editors I can design levels. I tried working with WC3WE but the game style didn't suite my tastes.

Yeah. Well there is no chance I'll be able to fit making a game in. I'm just far too busy with essays and projects and coursework for school. 6th form is the stage above high school in the UK, it's the same as UK college. Once you've done 6th form or college you go to University.

Alastor 04-18-2008 08:52 AM

MissMisa don't worry, as a 3D designer or graphics/concept artist, you don't need to make games. Your job is more or less visual art, which often do not require you to have made games before. You just need to have a creative mind and skills ;)

So, let's get back on topic shall we? :D

I just listened to the soundtrack from Crystal Chronicles. It's a beautiful soundtrack.

MazarDantechildofdevil 04-18-2008 01:26 PM

Okay, I agree that the games are basically remakes and they can't think about what new to create... But, if you kept a famous series like FF running do you think you'd be able to create better storylines and gameplay over and over? It gets hard so they add a little twist to it to make it different just let it be... But, the game play is still fun and the games still have okay story lines, or at least that's my opinion...

Alastor 04-18-2008 01:40 PM

I guess that's where I think Square-Enix are a bit... I don't know... cowards? It's the job of their designers to create the good games with the new, interesting storylines, etc. and if they can't do it, maybe they should giv ethe job to someone else?

As we all can see, the games in the main series seem to improve. Final Fantasy X steered away from common levelling and introduced CTB, Sphere Grid, switching mid-battle etc. and FFXII allowed even more free-roaming during battles, etc. Unfortunately, the music score is debatable, and the story is relatively bland (as are the characters). But FFXIII looks very promising.

The tihng that bugs me is that they have these other teams working on other FF games when they really should be making other games. A company should always try to make games to earn money, and Square-Enix has Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts as sure-fire ways of selling. Why not just try to make something different? That's what bothers me. And these spin-offs, they don't hold the same quality as the standard FF games.

I think it's just me growing out of the games I used to like. I don't fancy Resident Evil anymore, and not that interested in Devil May Cry so much, or Zelda for that matter. I'm loking for new experiences.

Nemhy 04-22-2008 04:27 AM

Isn't there already a final Fantasy topic? >_>

SHELKE17 04-23-2008 03:06 AM

I love all the FINAL FANTASY's there great except X2 i played it for 200 hours becuase i just couldn't get to 100% then i finally did and i was so fucking disappointed.

Sutiiven 04-23-2008 03:09 AM

I think all final fantasy games are awesome and should be considered on of the best RPG game series of all time

Aota 12-25-2008 05:21 PM

Can't wait to see how Square Enix and Disney fxks with us this time in Kingdom Hearts Birth By Sleep.

I would personally like a direct follow up to FF7 though...

A lot people do consider it as the best RPG series.

I like it myself, although, I didn't play too much of it. The last one I played was FFXII, and that was a pretty awesome game except for a few aspects. The new battle system was the best part. But for once, I can't wait for a FF game, and that's FFXIII, hahaha, especially since I just got a PS3.

Haha I can't wait for FFXIII either! I'll still have to get a PS3 though....but everything about the game(s) make me so excited :D I didn't really like FFXII, I think it was the battle system or just the characters..but I did beat it.
FFIX and X are my favorites, IX because it was my first FF and X because it's just plain awesome :)

koaku 12-30-2008 06:40 PM

Final Fantasy for me its first, the dream. I start Final Fantasy I to VI after playing VII and I noticed something: the VII marks the end off odd stories and the Final Fantasy now would mean something, why I say that? Because Final Fantasy VII for me is the first special episode to give importance to the chronology of events before the beginning of the game (Crisis Core)...All episode gave a lot of importance to the character but not always to the univers (Midgar, the school in the VIII,etc..) that’s why I said the FF is a dream, I never find another video game who made me dream like this I remember that I used to wake up At 3 am to say: Damn I have to move in the game.. .

strawberryshinya 12-30-2008 07:31 PM

i love the series and i cant wait till FF versus comes out. thats the one im really anticipating. it looks awesome!

Yuna7780 12-31-2008 02:08 AM

I love FF in general. It's like my gaming treat that I enjoy most. I find enough challenge in the ones I've played to continue on playing and get stuck for a little bit and figure it out after a while.

But... Since I've only started playing them about five years ago and don't own a DS... I've only played the PSX, PS2, and PSP games.

Arikado 01-01-2009 02:37 AM

How about Crystal Chronicles? Did anyone like that? I thought it was a really neat idea, and the game was pretty fun too, playing with friends.

stephyrampage 01-02-2009 07:18 AM

eh..
ff is okay.
the best one is ffx
ffXII didnt really have such good graphics.
the storyline kinda sucks too.

Yuna7780 01-02-2009 11:28 PM

About FFXIII... I'm happy and angry at the same time.

I was reading the latest Game Informer... and it's said that next year during the holidays, FFXIII will be released in Japan. It'll be in America around summer 2010. I don't want to wait and be a senior for this game!! I won't have time for games then!

Tangram 01-03-2009 12:09 AM

When I was a kid, I played the old games a lot. I played the American original a ton of times, and the Japanese II-IV several times (my aunt-by-marriage is Japanese, and so got me the games and told me what they said). I never played another one until last year, and that was XII. I also got the III remake for the DS. I've loved all of the games that I have played, and recently ordered VII and X for bargain prices. I look forward to getting more into the games. And I definitely look forward to XIII.

As for what ties them together...it's the feel, for me. The feel of playing the original and playing XII were so similar to me.

Aniki 01-03-2009 12:48 AM

Personally, I don't want them to stop making Final Fantasy games

FFXIII is another Half-life 2. Delays to the max and beyond.

Will you really buy the Advent Children Blu-ray disc just to get the FF XIII demo?
Besides, after reading some articles I found out that FF XIII demo will come out in Japan only in March, and it's not know when it'll show up in U.S.

Or just ask for my birthday. But we'll see... I NEVER rebuy movies or anything, so this would be a first for me to do. Plus, one of my friends wants the movie, so I can get a few bucks off of the DVD from her and I got the movie for REALLY cheap when I bought it.

SEE?? That's what an awesome shopper does a few years later and benefits! *has so many stories about coupons, discounts, and sales*

Kandierain15 01-18-2009 06:55 AM

I've onlt had the chance to play filnal fantasy eight but I love it. Have heard some bad criticism about crystal cronicles though. apolizises to anyone who likes it.

Oni 01-21-2009 12:45 AM

I've played VII, VIII, X and X-2, and out of all of them, FFVII still remains my favorite because of the characters and FFX is another one because of the storyline. Other than that, none of them really interest me anymore... they seem too monotonous and boring. I did sort of like Crystal Cronicles thought, to a point.

animelover32 01-21-2009 09:16 PM

It's offically...Unfortantly, Final Fantasy XIII won't be hitting the US till 2010. I read it over on GamePro.com if anyone wants to check it out.
