HDD swap?

Does anyone know the specs of the compatible hard drives for the PS3 and 360?

And if I would be able to switch the two.... put my 360 HD in my PS3 and vise versa?

my 360 Hard Drive is 3x my PS3's, but my PS3 requires more space for game installations.... such as MGS4...

The swap between the Xbox 360 memory and the Ps3's memory is impossible, but you can change the PS3 one for another one, with up to 500GB, and it as to be one of does the Laptops use, and it's better to use one with 4500rpm, so you don't overheat the PS3.

Does PS3 format a specific way? Same for 360. If they are compatible, why not switch em.

You wont be able to read it, but unless the hard drives have "special" connections there shouldnt be a problem switching up for a higher reading speed.

This is what the PS3 HDD looks like:

It's the same HDD that Laptops use.

I know for a fact that you can not swap out a 360 hard drive with a ps3 hard drive even if you take them apart.

You have two options:

1.You can buy a new SATA 2.5inch hard drive and swap out the old..

Video: YouTube - PlayStation 3 Hard Drive Upgrade (HOWTO)

2.You can buy a huge 3.5inch 400 gig SATA harddrive and use it as an external...

Video: YouTube - Replace the HDD of PS3 60GB(2.5inch) to 400GB(3.5inch)

Note: Make sure they' re SATA 3.0...

Hmm...

Well the 360's looks like they just put it into a fancy case. If you take of the outer shell it should be the same, right?

NEVER DONE!! JUST GESSING HERE FOLKS!!

U can also use a regular USB external hard drive, you can use it to store all your movies, music, saved games however you can not play the games installed from the Blu-Ray discs off the USB because of bandwith limitations...

I have a 500 gig external at the moment im gonna get a 1TB internal for the PS3...

They both format in FAT32 however their connections are different and bandwith is different.

If you we' re to put a 360 HDD into a PS3, your ps3 will lag slower than you' re grandma because 360' s don' t install games on the HDD they play them directly off the disk and requires minimal bandwith but higher loading times, plus you' d have a crap ton of wires sticking out of your console, u don' t want that believe me...

I have an external MAX DRIVE 160gb that was made specifically for the PS3, but it's always just worked when it wanted to..

I thought that they both used an ATA 2.5 in. notebook hard-drive....

Because when I go to install MGS4 it takes like 5-7gb depending on the chapter, and then another gig for MGO, and I have a whole bunch of space on my 360's hdd that will never be used cause I bought it solely for Infinite Undiscovery and Star Ocean 4...

"I thought that they both used an ATA 2.5 in. notebook hard-drive...."

It' s Serial-ATA, much faster than regular ATA:

USB and ATA 133 mbs per secong

S-ATA 1.5 gbs per second

S-ATA 3.0 gbs per second

XjapanFOREVER 10-14-2008 01:22 AM

anyways, will it work?
That's all i want to know... lol

Arnautu 10-15-2008 03:20 AM

If your trying to swap out a 360 HDD and put it in your ps3, then no it won' t work....

Just buy a regular 2.5inch Serial-ATA laptop harddrive (whatever size you want) and just swap it out, easy...

I recommend Western Digital HDDs, click the link below this is the one I recommend for you:

Newegg.com - Western Digital Scorpio Black WD2500BEKT 250GB 7200 RPM 16MB Cache SATA 3.0Gb/s Notebook Hard Drive - Laptop Hard Drives

If you can actually use any 2.5" HDD here, i would go for Velociraptor... it may not be as big as some of the other 2.5 inch-ers, but it sure is WAY faster. 10K rpm... that will make your load times non-existent. And from what i've heard, they aren't all that hot either.

Anywho, upgrading is soo much simpler on a PC ^_^

PS. I have to aggree with Arnautu here... Western Digital are making the overall best hard drives out there.

Arnautu 10-15-2008 03:41 AM

Yeah but you gotta keep in mind the man' s budget...

And yeah I' m a PC man myself...

My PC just RAPES the XBOX360 and the PS3 specs....

that's badass Ex, but yea, that's a bit pricey for me...

I've been meaning to upgrade my hd for some time, but never got around to it, and this seemed like a good idea, before I found out it wouldn't work...
I've been checking out the ones on Best Buy's website cause I'm not one to buy stuff online, other than my X JAPAN stuff...
anyways, I can't find any that are 2.5"
