Games of the 90's

I didn't see a thread like this so i thought i would start one.
A games of the 90's appreciation thread :)

When i was younger we had a SNES which i would play all the time, infact we still have it but it's in not so good condition now, i also have a dreamcast which is currently plugged into my monitor.

Anyway, since my older consoles have either been sold or sadly lost their lives, i decided to download a SNES emulator and start playing some of the older games again. (Except this time in Japanese)

Currently i am playing:
The legend of Zelda (ゼルダの伝説)

and Final Fantasy V (ファイナルファンタジーV)

Are there any games that you always liked to play in the 90's?
And if you still play older games or use any emulators like me what are they?

animelover32 01-25-2009 05:23 PM

I'm playing older games, definitly. I've been playing Final Fantasy IV, V and 6 (all for ps). I also have Chrono Trigger (ps) though I haven't tried it out yet.

Some games I would love to have/play again would be Duck Hunt and the original 8-bit Mario games for the Nintendo.

Acidreptile 01-25-2009 05:33 PM

The 90's were the golden age of games.Specially Mega Drive.:D

I would like to play Final Fantasy IV but i'm having a hard time finding a ROM for it ¬_¬ I still have Final Fantasy VII for the PS, it was one of the first proper RPG's i remember playing, although at that age i didn't quite get the story :p

Chrono Trigger i've never tried, but i've only heard good things about it so i'll have a look around for it and try it out.

And duck hunt was just awesome.

Oh man, I miss the 90's. Ocarina of Time FTW. And the SNES was awesome.

superheel 01-25-2009 08:40 PM

I never had a game console when I was young except the PSone. Now, I'm dying to have a PS again or other retro console. The 90's has the best RPGs ever!

zerox 01-25-2009 08:48 PM

I used to play Street Fighter II: The New Challengers and Super Mario World for the SNES when i had the console in my house, but we gave it to a cousin. I felt nostalgic a few months ago, so I downloaded an emulator and I'm currently playing Yoshi's Island and Super Punch Out. My God, the SNES was awesome. :)

Aniki 01-26-2009 01:37 PM

I played all the old generation Final Fantasy games on the Snes emulator.

jewelpre 01-26-2009 03:25 PM

I liked the mario games.

RazerKill 01-26-2009 05:00 PM

Oh yeah! And let's not forget Doom, Duke Nukem and Quake 2

Lucas89 01-26-2009 08:31 PM

I bought the old doom and quake games on steam a while ago quite cheap, lots of fun :)

And this.

Lawd, Earthbound is, as far as my knowledge takes me, the only game ever to come pre-packaged with the entire strategy guide as the manual. They thought it was that hard, which it wasn't, but it was that epic.

I want Apple Kid as a neighbor.

BratGaki 01-27-2009 04:23 AM

The SNES is still my favorite system, even after all these years.
The Legend of Zelda: ALttP, OoT, MM
Star Fox & Star Fox 64
Super Mario World
Final Fantasy II and III (V and VI corrected numbers)
Donkey Kong Country
Killer Instinct
Super Castlevania IV
Kirby's Dreamland

Oooooh my list goes on!

Banzaiii 05-19-2009 10:39 PM

Hmmm for pc games :
  • Adventures of rayman
  • Hover
  • Unreal tournament
Etc....

Also downloaded SNES emulator and currently playing Zelda No Densetsu, Lock-On, Super Mario Word and other games for Super Nintendo Entertainment System. They look out so cute by comparison to, say, modern Survival Horror such as Silent Hill : Homecoming:)

seiki 12-27-2010 06:05 PM

If you are playing snes you need to play the illusion of gaia. That is the most underappreciated game ever. (imo) I mostly played my psx I liked spyro chrono cross resident evil v8

protheus 12-27-2010 07:04 PM

Wolfenstein 3D anyone?

Yeah! Hours playing wolfenstein 3D when I was child, hahaha
good times!
Sometimes I play this game on my PSP to remember that good days.

I'm a great fan of old beat n' up games like Streets of Rage and Golden Axe (both from Sega Genesis).

Lots of hours playing Super Monaco GP, Sonic the hedgehog, Donkey Kong Country, Top Gear(the intoduction song is incredible), Super Mario World, Street Fighter II The New Challengers, Revenge of Shinobi, Castlevania ...

Any football fan here who had a Sega Genesis or a Super Nintendo probably played International Super Star Soccer Deluxe, ohhh yeah this game was awesome.

Talk about 16 bit era let me so nostalgic!

But the 90's game I spent more hours playing was the old Final Fantasy games (Snes era and Psx era)

Suki 01-07-2011 12:35 AM

Crash Bandicoot and Spyro the Dragon.

Enough said. :D

seiki 01-07-2011 05:59 AM

Suki. I would like to say that those are easily the best psx games ever. Especially spyro.

V1nn1 01-17-2011 08:07 PM

I also have an emulator like that :). I'd recommend Megaman X :D

Tumain 01-17-2011 11:00 PM

I'm surprised no one has mentioned any MegaDrive/Genesis classics!

Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Knuckles had me addicted! As well as Streets of Rage 2 co-op, which was legendary.

There's no need for me to mention the awesomeness of Ocarina of Time, Lylat Wars/Starfox 64, Super Mario 64 or Mario Kart 64, but I just did anyway. :-)

I think the NES was top class. I remember the joy of blowing the dust out of the cartridges... Super Mario Bros 3 was an incredible game for me at the time and I loved the little multiplayer game in it.

Kenji77 02-26-2011 05:31 AM

Great memories...

This thread brings back a lot of memories... playing until my eyes hurt... just one more stage and I am off to bed (I didn't believe myself!)

I think I played all of the Final Fantasy series for super nintendo. Many were never officially translated but some groups gladly did it.

A game I loved to play was one based from Captain Tsubasa series. I didn't understood the history but the gameplay was wonderful.

Ghap 02-26-2011 09:00 AM

Lol I guess im getting old(er) when people talk about the psx as retro.

but I guess thats off topic so games-

- The dizzy series
- Elite and Elite 2 were just amazing( especially for the time)

And possibley my favourite game of all time "Star control 2" which I originally played on the 3DO....the whole game of which is now free under the guise of "the ur-quan masters" google it and you will not be disapointed.
