E3 2009
Did anybody watch E3 Microsoft and Electronic Arts live today?
I did and it was amazing especially for Microsoft. Microsoft Project Natal YouTube - Project Natal for XBOX 360 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 YouTube - Modern Warfare 2 E3 2009 Forza Motorsport 3 YouTube - Forza 3: E3 2009 Debut Trailer - XRC www.xboxracing.net Left 4 Dead 2 YouTube - Left 4 Dead 2 Trailer! E3 2009 Project Natal totally stunned me. Sure we lack the technology of being that perfect but someday in the future it might be achievable. Electronic Arts I don't have any videos right now but there was an announcement for Crisis 2. And the greatest trailer for EA's conference was of the new Star Wars: Old Republic. Here: YouTube - Star Wars Old Republic E3 2009 Cinematic Trailer Tomorrow it is Sony's and Nintendo's turn. What will the biggest japanese console makers have in surprise against the software giant? For live broadcasting and times go to E3 2009, E3 Coverage, E3 Conference - G4tv.com. It is the official one for this year. Next Conferences: Nintendo conference (June 2, 2009 09.00am PST) Finished, trailers coming soon Sony conference (June 2, 2009 11.00am PST) Finished, trailers coming soon |
I watched some of Microsoft's press conference (mainly the Natal part)
and I... got mixed feelings. It didn't look that impressive from what I saw. BUT! it makes me very excited to see an improved version of this, makes me feel like crazy virtual reality games aren't too far away now. Peter Molyneux had some impressive stuff too, although that boy in the demo was clearly made to look more responsive/interactive than he probably is. Looking forward to sony and nintendo most though (never been a microsoft fan myself) I hope we get to see more of Trico! (new game from Ico, and Shadow of the Colossus creators) |
ah shoot!! i didnt know it was on!!
|
Project Trico has a trailer leak weeks ago, but it was from old internal testing.
And I think Microsoft can pull off this one. Like I said it, we're still far for having capable hardware to recognize movement and voice so good but in the future I'm sure it won't be impossible. Sony's EyeToy was a total failure in comparison. I like the movies selection feature. That won't be hard to achieve. I'm also looking forward to Square-Enix press conference. |

We can't judge such things before they haven't come out yet. Also, CoD:MW2 looks fucking amazing. |

BTW, I edited the main post with Nintendo's conference times. |

the main thing that really turned me off about natal is when that dude was showing off his avatar, and the limbs were shooting off in weird directions... not very pretty. Overall it just seemed kinda buggy (which im sure will be improved before release) "ever wonder what the bottom of your avatar's shoe looks like? .... BAM!" *avatar's arm flies through it's head* |

I just creamed myself while watching the Project Natal demo...

Another Halo game was announced. At least it's being handled by Bungie. ODST looked pretty sweet.
That Star Wars The Old Republic trailer definitely has me excited. Maybe it will be a WoW killer. Hopefully some previews on Bioshock 2 and Assassin's Creed are released soon. |

Many things have said to be a wow killer, but hardly anything has lived up to it. LEt's hope this does. |
I was just gonna post a thread about this but you beat me to it, haha.
Well, there are some interesting things going on. Firstly, with the Xbox, I knew they wouldn't be able to stop the Halo franchise! I kinda saw that coming. Metal Gear on the Xbox 360 will clearly piss of PS3 fans as that is their main counter arguement for the exclusives discussion, so oh dear. I think that attitude is being bitter though, and real fans of Metal Gear should be pleased that it's expanding to a wider audience. About the whole EyeToyNintendoWii rip-off, it's too early to tell what the hell that's going to pan out like. It might be crap, it might be amazing, who knows. I just feel like Xbox needs to get some more originality though instead of ripping off other peoples ideas and mixing it up - similar to what people were saying with 'avatars' being strikingly similar to 'Miis.' Also, since 'you are the controller,' you certainly won't be able to slouch around on your couch playing games - and that was one of peoples main beef about the Wii. That you always had to be waggling stuff around, but at least with the controller they could have games which means you dont have to do that. Hopefully to combat that, they'll make it so if you simply cba, you can hook up a 360 controller and play. Oh yeah, and with voice recognition, you just KNOW how annoying that s*** is. It finds it hard to differentiate between languages, accents, if there is background noise, if you talk fast, slow etc. I can see that being a bit of a farce. We've only seen trailers and a bit of gameplay, so it's still early to make judgements. Looks pretty exciting though, I just love the whole gaming innovations, regardless of the console. |

A ripoff is an inferior product. And Nintendo Wii? What's the similarity with it? Quote:
|
the things i found most promising are probably the Left 4 Dead 2 as well as teh Star wars old republic and Crysis 2. :D
those look sooooo good but w/ the new xbox thing....i dont see it turning out very well >.>; thats jus me though lol (link to L4D2 YouTube - Left 4 Dead 2 Trailer! E3 2009) |

Just because it's not exactly the same doesn't mean it's not cashing in on Nintendo's idea of virtual reality and movement. If you look at the demo can't you see how strikingly similar it is to a Nintendo Wii advert? When the family are driving a car, it's the same as the Nintendo Wii advert without the Wii wheel. That's not to say I'm not excited about it, it does look fantastic if it works, but my point is it's obviously not totally out-of-the-blue original. Quote:

When they mention Nintendo, it doesn't mean they based on it... these kind of gaming wasn't an idea of Nintendo nor Sony. Controller free gaming has been an idea years before they did something but we lacked technology. Just because Nintendo or sony started it first, it means nothing. The only idea of Nintendo is that they used a controller. Microsoft is not using it at all. Does not seem as a ripoff to me at all. It's like saying Blu-Ray is a ripoff of DVD o.O And about EyeToy, it wasn't a new technology either, they just started using movement sensing for gaming too. So you can't say 'face recognition isn't a new technology and call MS's idea as a ripoff'. Project Nolan uses many cameras. Yes EyeToy had face recognition, which wasn't a new technology either, but it didn't use it like Project Nolan's innovative way. It is quite original. Seems people these days call a ripoff of something anything that comes before a previous product which had little similarities but was an inferior product. A ripoff is supposed to be inferior, not better. |
Quote:
Rip-off means copying recent ideas. It has nothing to do with being inferior or better, so that is irrelevent. I think they've copied recent ideas - you don't. Fair enough, that is subjective. 'Avatars' were a rip off of 'Miis' but Avatars aren't inferior. It's not 'using my logic' because you can't apply that whole opinion to everything in the world, that is why my point is specific to gaming. Quote:
You are saying that by making one point, about one instance, my opinion can be applied to everything all across the board. That's assuming things, and you know what the say about assuming. |
Okay, let me end this silly thing.
Project Nolan looks interesting, we are agreed on that. Project Nolan took ideas for gaming from the Eyetoy. No, don't say it didn't, just because Eyetoy was a failure and because this sort of stuff has been around for ages. In GAMING, yes, gaming, eyetoy was the first one who introduced it. All Project Nolan is doing, is taking the idea, and expanding it. MS and Sony have been doing that for the last 5-10 years now. Microsoft's Xbox just took the PS2, and upgraded it in multiple ways (Including by adding online play) then Sony created the PS3 to keep up with the Xbox 360. It's been done before, so stop arguing about such a small thing. It's sounding like a fanboy rant. Halo is not a trilogy. Trilogy = three, and only three. Did Pirate's of the Carribean make another instalment? No. Bungie is just milking the Halo cow now. Not the mention the game is total shit anyways. |
Project Nolan = Project Natal? Or did I miss something?

Walt Disney have been planning to release the fourth installment of its most successful trilogy ‘Pirates of the Caribbean 4‘ in 2011. At least Halo is not doing a sequel to a trilogy, because it makes no sense. Halo 3 OSDT takes place in the same timeline the first trilogies were, so it is part of the trilogy And btw, If Nintendo can milk Super Mario and Sega can milk Sonic X... I don't see why Microsoft can't have a game representing them. |
Quote:
Again you are trying to compare gaming specific situations to everything else in the world - it doesnt work. At least Nintendo and Sega didn't say - 'Oh we are only making a trilo- hey wait! Halo's sold loads, f*** the trilogy thing, let's make more!' Point is, they didn't say they were just making a trilogy with their games. |
Quote:
Halo 4 will be another whole story so it will be a 2nd trilogy. They are not lying at all, it is just you wanting it hard to be like that. And I would like you to explain me what exactly a ripoff is? a product which contains 1 out of 5 features SIMILAR to another product? NINTENDO'S PRESS CONFERENCE IN 40 MINS |
I don't know why everyone is in arms over Bungie announcing additional installments to the Halo universe. The games were fun, and as long as each game introduces something innovative, I'm certainly not complaining. The feature added onto ODST, firefight, sounds sweet.

But what I don't get is people who tell MS to have stopped with Halo 2, instead of encouraging to do a better job next time. Btw, what do you people think Nintendo and Sony will have in response to Microsoft? |

Nintendo Press conference is over... what are your thoughts??
I'm unimpressed I'd say Metroid was the highlight of that one. but seriously? Wii Vitality? what was that about... Now you can play games... that put you to sleep... fun.... |
Quote:
I think they had a really good selection but they saturated it by going on about Wii motion plus and that weird finger add on thing, seriously, what the hell. |

I only enjoyed the Kingdom Heart's exclusive. SONY LIVE CONFERENCE IN 40 MINUTES |
project natal totally rock!
just like Wii but way cooler~ this makes me wanna buy Xbox 360 someday.. but I guess I wait for a newer console.. :p |

Nice motion sensor from Sony. Not at MS's level though. And compared to the Wiimote plus it was a lot better imo...
And 200+ people online at once. Awesome. But most important was PSP Go, Gran Turismo and FF14. PSP Go might be the right way of PSP, but I'm skeptical of the controlling part... looks like it does not fill my whole palm. And FF14, a new online game and PS3 exclusive. I enjoyed Sony a lot. But without a price cut they will have a hard time. Everyone was waiting for it at E3. |
So far I'd say that The Beatles: Rockband was the best thing shown. Natal, Metroid, mario, and kingdom hearts are also pretty cool.
But I'm a huge fan of the Beatles and it looks like they're doing a good job pulling it off. Can't wait for sony's press conference. They better show MORE TRICO! |

WHAT THE F**K!?!??
i missed it? .....lol i thought it wasn't till tonight for some reason... oh well... I'm gonna go watch it now. |
Quote:
Tbh it was the one I was least interested in so I didn't stress too much. I'll watch it later :D |
Sony had more exclusive games which are worth buying but for some reason it dissapointed everyone by not dropping its price. If they would have done that it would have been another story.
So far my ranks for the conferences are: 1. Microsoft (Project Natal is a big factor here. And this rank comes from a Sony fanboy :P. Good job this time.) 2. Sony (Totally pwned any other in terms of games, but the price drop didn't happen so yea.) 10. Nintendo (Cmon, a 2D Super Mario game with 4players at once? WOW, I'm so excited about it >_>! They should have announced a new Zelda to be a bit more decent.) |
