PS3 question

Will a imported Japanese game work on the American PS3?
Cause I'm importing the International versions of FFX, FFX-2, and FFXII...
And if it won't, how would I go about making it do so?

I know that the Blu-Ray Regions for America and japan are the same, so in theory, wouldn't they have shipped the same version of the console to America and Japan, so wouldn't the system have to be compatable with both region 1 and region 2 PS2 games?

None of the Playstation systems are compatable with different country-code games.

You must mod your PS3 to make it compatible... which isn't something I would recommend. The best way to play Japanese games in the US is to buy a Japanese PS3.

Well, that's not entirely true, the Blu-Ray regions for Japan and America are the same, look it up...
That's why I'm not bitching that Advent Children Complete is only planned for a Japanese release, because it's been confirmed that it will have an English audio option, so I can just have it imported because America and Japan have the same region when it comes to to Blu-Ray....

I am finding that "in theory" the PS3 should be region-free in gaming, but this is all 2005 speculation...

Hmmm...

This article says that it is region-free.

Never heard that before. That's some good news...

hey has tekken 6 come out in japan yet

XjapanFOREVER 09-24-2007 03:33 AM

no, Tekken has not come out in Japan... anyways, if it came out in Japan it would be out here cause they can release the same version in both countries.
It's region free when it comes to blu-ray media, I'm just not sure about PS2 media..

Totally wrong, both the PS3 and PSP are region-free. Only PS2 and PS1 games has region locked on it. All types of PS3 games can be worked on all types of PS3 systems. Same for the PSP. That is just for games only though.

Basically here's how it is. PS3 games are region free and blu-ray media is not region free (but as you said, where you are and japan might be the same region). PS2 games however are region locked. the best way to go about this is just to buy a cheap japanese ps2 or buy a normal cheap ps2 where you are and mod it. it's illegal, and i'm not gonna give you info on how to do it, but just search the net. there are do it yourself guides available. and there are places that sell chiped already (however this option is a rip-off)

I thought I wouldnt open a new thread for the question:

My man, downloaded ffxii for me 06 september it came out in europe later in 07

so it was american. Why does it work on ma ps2??

My guess was because he burned it using a PAL disc burner...
Speaking of FFXII, what do you know about the Eternity Blade, I hear it's speculation, but I want to know for sure.
