I hope that's not your arm in the picture, because if it is then heads up; you're going to get mocked for branding yourself with something in a language you don't even understand.

Can't help with the translation, I'm not strong enough at reading calligraphic script.

I really doubt it's his arm. I'm pretty sure he'd know the meaning if it was.

Fair point, but then, how many people have we had on here asking "can you translate 'blah de blah' into japanese so I can tattoo it on myself" or be asking about tattoo's already done (ok, normally on other people) that they are unsure of the meaning of? It's dumb, but it seems to happen with shocking regularity.

I think it´s upside down. But even though it seems that way i still can´t read it, sorry -___-

Ah. . . wait, no its not, I can read a MI there somewhere

No doubt about that one.
If it actually was his tattoo, I think this would be the funniest of them all.
That tattoo isn't even stylish.

koidragon 10-29-2009 06:24 AM

it is upside down, so excuse that, not on my arm.

its from a japanese tattoo book and i have seen it used alot, i like the look of it and it goes well with something i wanna get so id like to know if it means anything or says anything in particular

From the writing on top to the big characters themselves, it looks to me like a design that has taken a life of its own from non Chinese/Japanese reading artists. It looks close to Japanese, but, to me, it doesn't look like any actual characters...in other words, worse than gibberish. But I am not a native speaker and hopefully a native speaker can solve the mystery.

One of the red characters look like a Siddham letter with a bad handwriting.

Nagoyankee, get in here.

koidragon 10-29-2009 12:51 PM

It's from an artist called horyoshi 3 (excuse name spellin book is not to hand) but he puts it on alot of his work and iv seen it before and wanna know what it means for a friend I'll get a better pic later

Nagoyankee 10-29-2009 01:05 PM

It says 彫よし、the legendary tattooist's signature. He uses an old kanji for 彫, so I can't type it here.

koidragon 10-29-2009 08:41 PM

so it is just a signature like i thought?

Don't know what you thought but it is, nothing else. I usually don't post in tattoo threads but since it seemed yours was going nowhere, so...

koidragon 10-30-2009 09:16 AM

Thanks for the reply that's all I wanted to know but may stic around the forums as I'm nterested in Japanese culture

I knew it was either a signature or perhaps something yakuza
