Okinawa. I miss the US. - 03-11-2008, 11:15 AM

I live on Okinawa. I've been living here for almost six years now.
Well, it was split. First time I came here I was like... five I think.
I stayed for three years, came back to NC for three years, and then back to Oki for another three years.
I only have half a year left here, and I'm getting really excited about going back to the US.
There are so many things that you can only get in the US (clothes with print that make sense xP), but then again... there are also things that you can only get here too (I love their cute erasers, lol).
I look at Okinawa as being more of a vacation spot though, not as a place to live. :/

Anyway, I was given a choice. Would I rather stay here on Okinawa for another year, or go back to the US?
I'm not really sure. I love Oki, but there's not much to do here. Going to Jusco everyday gets kinda boring. I miss the US, because all my friends and family are there still waiting for me to come back. I've made a lot of great friends here too, and I like how groups here don't form based on race or labels.
The guy I like is a senior now and will be leaving Oki this year, so if I stay he'll be gone anyway.
Hmm... but another good reason to stay would be because my sister is a junior now, and if we leave she'll have to start out her senior year very lonely. D:

...awh, damn... my zit is bleeding. D:
gotta go.

I read in the news that Anti -US tension was on the rise in Okinawa after the alleged rape of a young japanese girl by an Air Force Sergeant.

Glad to hear that it's not spilling over into negative relations between you and your friends.

You should decide what is more important, to see your sister growing up and stay with your friends, or going to the us, meeting up the family after that many years, getting maybe some new friends (if you don´t have already there) and doing some now things^^ How many years would you stay in the US or how long would you have to stay in oki if you would stay, how long does your sister go to school?^^

When do you think people die?

When they are shot through the heart by the bullet of a pistol?
No.

When they are ravaged by an incurable disease?
No.

When they drink a soup made from a poisonous mushroom?
No!

It's when... they are forgotten.

Yeaa, we went into a lockdown because of it. We couldn't go off base.
It turns out that she wasn't really raped though. :/

Did you also hear about the Okinawans throughing rocks at the Americans and raping our women after we went on lockdown?

And for the last part, uhm... I just needed help deciding. That's all, but you don't have to.
I don't want to end up making the wrong choice. D:

Ironic isn't it?

It's the way of the world though, in taking convention and turning it on it's head.

My friend , whos part of the airforce spent 4 straight years in Okinawa. He said the exact same thing , it just did not provided the types of things you can get in other places ( Or at least for cheap ).
Plus yea he missed his friends and family to.
But hey , at least it was one hell of an experience. I heard it's absolutely beautiful.
My first concern has never been to go just to japan.
I'd go anywhere with a view.
