I've been reading your thread. I was thinking about going to a Japanese collage. I made A 3.5 GPA in HS and I'm learning Japanese right now. I just wondered if that was even probable or even possible. Any advice would be well received.

Well, I dont have anywhere near enough money to attend college in the US to get a degree in just about anything, and I want to live in Japan.
What are some examples of jobs that can allow me to stay there that dont require a degree? Once I'm there, I know I can get work, but I need a job to basically get in there and get some cash saved up. 23 Year old Male |

I say just stay were you at and save up for trips every year though its quite expensive honestly you probabaly should just take trips there every once in a while besides do you really want to leave your whole family and freinds

Tons of people take students loans and financial aid to get through college so you might want to look into that. Begin with a community college and if you do well, there are opportunities to scholarships so there are ways around. It is really up to you to commit yourself to it. Even if you do get a job in Japan, without a college degree, your options will be limited anyways and you would be stuck with some crappy job. Unless you are Bill Gates or Larry Ellison, you need a degree. |
So I guess this is my advice to Miyavifan as well.
It's not too late to go back to college. And if you really want to come to Japan, it may be the fastest way. You would get your degree and also college would give you time to learn and practice your Japanese. It's never too late and you might as well take some action now than regretting it later. Time is a awful thing to waste... Good luck Miyavifan and you can do it!! |
Miyavifan,
While I think you have a lot of prep to be done before reloacting to Japan will work, I have a suggestion. You mentioned having done some hotel work. What sort of work? Was it with a major chain? If you can get placed well enough in Japanese owned hotel in the U.S. there might be more opportunites to transfer to one they own in Japan. Same is true for American owned, but there is more competition for those assignments. |
Miyavifan,
tommasi and TalnSG have some good suggestions. If you really want to come to Japan don't give up. In the meantime, why don't you plan a trip to Japan. This way you can get taste for what life could be like there. I know it sounds crazy, but you might end up not liking it or you may fall deeper in love with the place. If you you need a place to stay for a few months I have a couple of contacts that might be able to help you out. Let me know. |
